Default help with installing a push/pull pot

I'm installing a push/pull pot so I can split my bridge humbucker. Instructions show that I have to connect or ground the push/pull pot to itself. Do I need special wire for this? I have extra red/white two lead shielded cable. Will this kind of cable work?

Cool. The reason why I ask is because the marking on my wire says the red wire is "Hot", I'm kind of new to modding electronics.

any wire can be used as a hot or ground by itself, electricity just has to be able to flow through it, if its attached to a pickup thats different, but as your using it it's fine

you can use the small wires from your ethernet/phone cables if you have them to spare
I use some old 20 gauge speaker wire I have laying under the bench
