What to do with older livewires?

I have several sets of older duncan livewire pickups. I really liked the sound of them in the one guitar i had them in, but always felt the 18v needed was a huge down side. Now the Blackouts are available and are supposed to be close sounding without needing 18v. I tried a few EMGs and wasn't impressed at all.

what should i do with the live wires? keep them as is? sell them and get blackouts? How different are they from the new blackouts? could Duncan remove the preamp built into the livewires and add on the new modular preamp or would this be not possible or to expensive? a few are still new in box, i hate buying gear twice.

How would i build a phantom power box? would i need a stereo cable to use it?

I say hold on to them just in case you buy a new guitar you could throw them in.

You can build a phantom power box and house the batteries outside the guitar. That way you can power the guitar through the cable and not have the bulk of housing the batteries.
