    Default Middle pickup for ibanez

    I got IBANEZ GRG170DX, and now after 3 years of playing i wanna change pickups and add some better to it. I play mainly old school metal music. Guitar is H-S-H (humbucker-single coil-humbucker). In bridge position i decided to put Dimarzio Super Distortion in, and for neck position Paf Pro. But i can't decide what to put in the middle single coil position. Any suggestion? ( sorry for my english, it's little bad)

    Welcome to the forum.

    The choice of centre pickup depends upon two factors;
    1) Whether you require the centre PU to be noise-cancelling by itself.
    2) Whether you are auto coil splitting the humbuckers in selector switch positions 2 and 4. (The Ibanez selector switch may already be wired this way.)

    In My RG4 I have a Fender Vintage Noiseless sandwiched between two HOT Carvins

    the Fender is hum canceling (which I like)
    it has a real single coil sound(which I like)
    it has a low vintage output (it is easily overwhelmed by the humbuckers, not liking)

    If I were to suggest something I would steer towards something a higher output

    the Fender has a resistance reading of 9K ohms and still is a low volume pickup

    Welcome!

    I gotta tell ya, I LOVE old school metal. My RG, in my sig down there, has a Tone Zone (b), D-Activator X (n)... and an AREA '67 in the middle. I loooooove that pup so much. It handles some high gain extremely well and gets some sweet classic rock/metal tones. I use it for Yngwie-esque runs; gets pretty damn close to his early tone. When it's combined with the TZ, it might just be my favorite sound I've gotten out of a guitar; it's really quacky but with some ass to it. Should match up pretty well with your SD too.

    Anyways, my vote is definitely for the '67. It, obviously, really shines for clean tones but slap some gain on it a BAM! Just look how Paul Gilbert made it work for him. I think it can do it all.
