    Default My latest creation--Steampunk Guitar

Here you go, an unashamed plug for my latest creation

It's all hand built, except for the neck and pups and stuff.
A few specs, and more pics, are here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...e=STRK:MESE:IT

And if you want to see it in action a little bit, it's here

    Cheers.

Hey, how did you do that TLD??? Thanks! I tried everything---well, everything except the right thing, of course

It could be a better vid, but hey-ho. The 1st bit is me, the other two is a mate of mine ( and his sister)

Here's the specs, I'll try to put some build pics up later.

    Starting at the pointy end.

It’s an Italia Maple neck, covered in real copper leaf, then lacquered.
    Rosewood Fretboard.
Machine heads are Italia, with most of the chrome buffed off, and polished.
    Hand made Stainless steel Nut.
Fret side markers are small brass machine screws.
The hand made body is Maple, covered with thin steel, and brass rivets, then a few coats of lacquer.
All the pickup plates/control plate/jack socket plate/light and battery covers/rear string retainer block/headstock plates are hand made in Brass.
The Bridge is hand made from steel, with hand made Brass saddles.
Strap buttons are Stainless Steel nuts and bolts.
Rear Neck plate is hand made from Stainless steel
Control knobs are Stainless Steel Dome nuts.
Pickups are fully wax potted Alnico Humbuckers, with 2 Volume pots, 2 Tone pots and a 3 way Les Paul type switch.
The lights are a string of 12 LED’s, powered by 3 watch batteries.
    Weight is about 4.5kg ( 10.75lbs)

Sorry, the steam gauge doesn’t actually work, I’m working on a way for that for the next one.

I'd love Matt Bellamy---or someone---to have it. Anyone got his e mail address?????

Now that's a guitar to hang on the wall

Unfortunately it's a tad out of my price range.
It's a valve sporker... it sporks valves

Yup, that's a sweet guitar but unfortunately I'm left-handed and broke.

Nice work and good luck with the sale.

    Thanks guys!

I can do left handed too

It's open for offers--that is 'till it gets snapped up by Lemmy and I get to be a 'Name' luthier Probably in my dreams, maybe.

Ah-Ha-----That's how it's done. Cheers Kam.

Nope, that's not one of mine. Shame really 'cos it's probably one of the most recognisable ones around! Quite well done too.

Are those painted LEGO gears in that little triangular area??? Bathroom mirror holders keeping the gauge held on???

Cool idea, but those little details would drive me nuts! Implanting an old gear set from a clock would have been cool... and there had to be a better way to hold that gauge on there. To me it looks as if it was finished hastily, not artistically.

Yeh, I see what you mean. Quite often it's the little details that can let something down.

Actually the mirror holders give it that Metropolis look, don't know if you know of that movie but its what Bioshock's level styling was based off of, real steampunk right there. i might turn my korean memphis into a steampunk guitar now lol.

    X 2 (+n) for this one.

Steampunk is too often killed by overkill. It is a subtle art in it's organic excess of patina.

Cool! I'm getting underway with mine, though a little different.
So far, I have black walnut and a builder for the neck and body. Dirty South Guitars is building my neck pickup, like this one...

This dial face and bezel will be the front control trim.

Here is my switch surround and straplocks.

Haven't found my trap tail yet, but it will be an old door hinge. Rosewood archtop bridge.
    Soapbar bridge pickup.

    Having fun so far.

    EG
