    Default Spin a split question

I wanted to try the SAS mod on my one guitar that has 2 hums with 1 volume, 1 tone pot.
My question is can i wire both buckers to be split on the ONE tone pot and use my 3 way switch like always ? or do you have to just have one bucker per pot to dial in a split with this mod?

My first thoughts are that it won't work, but I'm no electronic wizard. You could get a dual pot and use one for each pickup.

What does this do to the full HB sound? I'm thinking I might try it in my SG on the bridge, but it's already a dark pickup, so I'm a little concerned about that.

Also, I saw the thread about what pot values to use, with a 100K log being the best choice for a useable range (or wiring in a resistor), but mainly I'm doing it to avoid making a hole for a switch and push/pulls won't fit, so a 500K audio should effectively be a switch, right?

If you have two pickups on the same pot with a SAS you will get variable split on the bridge/neck/middle. The split will be equally applied to both pickups in the middle position.

Since your still using the pot as your tone control, I'd go with a 500k. That way, you won't get too much treble cut with your pickup split.

FWIW, I found a 1 meg REVERSE log pot that works great, because you get lots of range for the split before the tone control starts working. From 10 to 6 is the split and then the tone control starts cutting in. Don't know where you could get one these days.

You could put in a concentric pot (2 pots on one shaft) and work it that way.
In 1861 as the Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the blue and gray had infinitely more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "there is no truth, only points of view", or "what is truth?"

Secession would be a horror. But barring a major national crisis like a Black Death magnitude epidemic or nuclear attack to erase once and for all the myth that truth is negotiable, it is coming.

I have been wanting to try this on one of my HxS guitars for some time now. I will try to get to it this weekend.

I use a tapped pot. The tap is about halfway on the pot. Single coil at the tap, HB at full turn. Obviously it blends between the the tap and full.

you could even whack in a dual shaft/dual taper pot.

Not sure who came up with the mod. The first Peavey guitars were wired with it. Prior to that Gibson and Fender were too tight *** to admit that there was merit in the others pickups. I guess there were also patent issues at some point.
