Default Which SD pickups are identical except for the magnet?

Thought we could make a nice little resource for magnet-swappers: a list of SD pickups that are identical except for the magnet.

So far I only know of the following. As people chime in I'll update the list in this first post of the thread.

    SD 'Custom' series
    • A2 - Custon Custom
    • A5 - Custom Five
    • Ceramic - Duncan Custom

    ?? JB and Distortion ??
    • A5 - JB
    • Ceramic - Distortion

distortion (large ceramic) + jb (A5) + invader (i think the invader is the same wind only with 3 mags and large screws)

There's an A3 Custom? Even as just OEM, that's cool. Would have liked to have seen an a4.

But I guess that makes the A3 the Custom Custom Custom Custom.

I don't know if it's true, but I read once a long time ago that the APH and the Jazz were the same pup with A2/A5 mags respectively. The Distortion and JB just have different mags for sure. Seems like there was something else but I don't honestly recall.

The custom custom custom was the C5 before it was a production pickup.

The Custom Custom "joke" is the "2" - it's supposed to be like "Custom Squared" with the miniature "2" for the A2 magnet (this board doesn't appear to have the superscript tag active, or I'm doing it wrong).

Ergo, an A3 would, following this line of thinking, is be written as "Custom Cubed" with a superscripted "3".

There is no way an invader is the same wind as JB and Distortion.

The Custom series are the only ones that I know of that are the same. I've been on this forum for almost 12 years and I've never heard anything about any of the other pickups being the same thing but with a different magnet. Unless yall are 100% sure and have proof then I wouldn't start any rumors that they are the same.

I have no problem with this unless evan or mj confirm it i dont believe any but the customs are the same. i posted here that "i heard" the JB and distortion were the same with different mags and always wanted to know if that was true? maybe evan will chime in on this thread?

Frank Falbo needs to chime in...

Like Jolly says, the custom is the only one we know for sure. I have read/heard plenty about what was supposed to be the same, but no real proof.

I'm curious why "Tonight" is showing in your sig as an "unreleased track" Ayrton. Is it just the demo version from the remaster?

On topic, I don't believe the Invader/Distortion/JB are all the same apart from the magnet and screws. I'd like to know where that rumour comes from.

    +1

The invader has less D.C. resistance but more inductance than a distortion.
