Default First time Slinky player - WOW, just WOW

I've been using D'Adds and on occasion Gibson strings for as long as I have been playing. Today, I strung up one of my Teles with super Slinkys for the first time. I cannot believe how much easier they are to bend.

I've read that they get dull fast and break easily, but I don't struggle with them so if I need to change them a bit more often, so be it. I haven't really played at volume with them yet either to hear how they really sound. So far, I like

I haven't found them to get dull fast or break easily? The worst on both of those scores for me have been GHS and Dean Markley.

I've been using them since I started playing and have found no evidence of them dulling out or breaking easily. Great strings. Period.

There's a reason as to why I've been using them, almost exclusively, since I first started playing.

I just find them too spaghetti-like. I'm sure if I'd actually increase my gauge from just 9's to 10's or 11's, the Slinky's could rock. Otherwise, they feel noodle-y to me.

Thumbs up Re: First time Slinky player - WOW, just WOW

been using Ernie ball limes for 15 years just switched to purple's, but yeah great product as far as i can say having only used rotosound on my basses for 15 years as well.
Although i hear great things about the dunlop strings. I might try them eventually.
All i can say is never use black diamond strings they're garbage!

How i got the nick name Buckethead. It was Easter Sunday 1984 and my grandmother bought me a Plastic bucket with Easter eggs and candy, to which i promptly dumped all said contents and put the bucket on my head. I am not the musician Buckethead nor do i claim to be.

Yeah, the Dunlop strings seem great. I heard a demo on YouTube and you can hear the difference. They're very clear and great for leads.

I did try the Dunlops, when they first came out.

I must admit that they were nice, but, this was also during a time when I felt the urge to change things up, and try 10's again. They felt like my Ernie Ball 9's, or at least that was how it seemed to me.

Yep, I've also used Ernie Balls for as long as I've been playing electric guitars. For a long time I used the hybrid slinkys (orange), then I switched to the regular 10's (green) and for about 6 months I've been using the Super Slinkys (pink). I've got no complaints and no reason to switch to anything else. I have tried a few different brands, Fender Bullets were the worst. I've never though a string would make such a negative impact on my tone. I switched back immediately.

I've used Dean Markley, D'Addario, LaBella, Black Diamond, GHS, SIT, and a couple of others I can't recall. Always came back to Ernie Ball. I used the lime 10s for quite a while, but moved down to 9s (pink) back in about 1990 and never went back. I did dabble with their 8s once or twice. I do not recommend that

Haven't had any trouble with them breaking or going dull quickly. In fact, of all the strings I've tried, the EBs still sound good even when they're cruddy. All the others sounded like rubber bands when they needed to be changed.

That's funny, I can't stand Slinkys or D'adds, I always use either GHS or Gibson Les Paul strings.

I used Slinkys for some time because they are very cheap, but they rusted in something like two weeks... I've changed to Elixirs now and I'd never ever use Slinkys again. I hate these strings.

I recently made the switch to Elixirs also. Prior to that, I had gone through GHS, Dean Markley, and DR. I had settled on Slinkys. They just don't seem to last nearly as long as Elixirs, although they sound great for a while. The other thing the Elixirs do better is cut down on finger noise.

That's strange... I've had the same set of super slinkies on my main guitar for... probably close to eight months. They still intonate well, have no tarnish at all, and sound good (though not as bright/chimey as in the first few days). I play a lot, and don't wash my hands before playing or wipe the strings down after playing. I guess I have particularly string-friendly sweat.

I don't expect I'll change from EBs in the near future.

I use EB 9s on the Tele and 10s on the Strat. To me they are very lively and after using them for many years no other brand seems right. I tried the Elixirs and found them lacking in high end detail and somewhat harder to intonate.

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to strings anyway. I know noone else whose Slinkys rust in two weeks, that's only me. Many people say that Elixirs break easily, I have never broken a single one, etc etc etc. Just gotta find what suits you best

Never had intonation problems, but I also found them to be sorta muddy, like someone had taken all the treble out of them.

I have no treble issues whatsoever, but there are so many factors... woods, pickups, pedals, amp... and I have quite a lot of treble in the end.

Regular Slinkys were my go to string for many years simply on cost. Never had one break on me and they sounded "good" for a very long time. Recently, I stumbled upon a deal on DR Pure Blues. I now have a case of 24, so that'll have to last me

I managed to snag them for about $.20 more per set than the EB's so I figured it had to be worth a go, since they're usually twice the price.

Have to say, after going back to my last set of EB's after a month or so on the DR's, the EB's last SIGNIFICANTLY longer, but are less flexible for bends, and don't quite make the guitar resonate like the DR's do. Oddly, the EB's feel much rougher as well.
