My strategy of not spending too much time in the Sound Room must be paying off. I'm not aware of anyone in this forum that I dislike.

Your assumptions are just that. I continue to post here because there are a few people I like to interact with and that I value their feedback. I cannot picture any scenario occurring on this or any public forum that would cause me duress or that could not be resolved by pointing my browser to another URL.
The things I outlined I have been observed over a period of years and were only brought up as a possible contributing factor to the original poster's quandary.
As with any post; you can take it or leave it but do not try to read anything into it. I go to great lengths to post my thoughts as succinctly as possible.

This place annoys me on occasion, yet typically it has more to do with my response to others than their actual actions.
I've seen the "clique" argument made numerous times over the years. Often, I am amazed when it is. I have been included in such categorizations at times, yet I can assure that many of my stances are not in the majority here. There are a handful of folks here that share many of my core beliefs. A HANDFUL. Yet you would not know it at times when the accusations are flying.
That said, we still have a bit of a "brotherhood" here. I was involved in a lengthy discussion recently in which I was on opposite sides of an issue with a forum bro. After a couple of days I received a PM apologizing if the disagreement was perceived as a personal attack. We still disagree on that issue, yet the brotherhood remains intact.
There is a strong sense of community here. Has it been stronger in the past? Yes. However, the active membership was probably <1/3 of the current participation.

I'm sticking around just to watch Aceman's descent into madness.
Well one good thing about keeping it clean is that I like to login to SD sometimes during my lunch break at work and I can't have vulgar stuff displayed on my screen. Some may not agree but things like drugs is something I would not want to see discussed on a musicians forum. I am against drug abuse and it disgusts me to see that subject being discussed casually.
The other part is that even though it's great to be able to discuss many topics, music and gear is kind of my main reason for being a member. What I hate more than not being able to discuss certain irrelevant subjects, is when a few people try to discuss something and it gets crowded by a load of off-topic comments and insults.

Every love that made me lose my reasoning. Every chord that made my conscience ache. Every day spent counting hours. Well, none of them comes close to singing back a song inside my head.
I remember calloused hands and paint-stained jeans, and I remember safe-as-houses self-belief.

Spend enough time on a forum that's continually growing and you'll see complaints about how it's gone to hell. In some ways those complaints are correct. It loses that "small town feel". Many of the group norms established early in the community's life fall by the wayside during extended periods of growth. When you get down to it, this is just the discussion board version of becoming a victim of your own success. People move on and if you're lucky they're replaced by people of similar quality.
While all that's par for the course, there's one seemingly unavoidable aspect of message board growth that I find difficult to accept: people who visit a specialty discussion board (e.g., guitars) and spend most of their time discussing chicks and tabloid current events. Honestly, if I want softcore pr0n, I can find it pretty easily and if I don't care about tabloids enough to pick them up in line at the supermarket why would I waste my "guitar discussion time" to talk about some skanky celeb in rehab?
