    Default Discussion... Collings 290 DC

Ok... just for discussion... I saw this in a Guitar magazine and my first thought was... why? It is a nice guitar, looks to be quite a player, but it looks almost exactly like a Gibson. I don't understand the point of producing this guitar. I haven't looked into all the details of the manufacturing process, but it seems like a wasted effort... I mean, Gibson's produced this for years and I don't see any major improvement here, so why bother?

Is it simply to add flavor? Collings is known for highly crafted guitars, and the intent of this style guitar is really to be down and dirty... doesn't seem to mesh with the company's brand. The street price is $2900.

Anyway... I see a lot of this and just wanted to discuss with everyone.

Ah yes, the The "Collings vs. Gibson." I know it well.

I think they have a deli sandwich named after this argument at the TGP Cafe.

A glimpse into the future of this thread:

    1) The "Hyundai vs. Mercedes"

    2) The "Then you're obviously not a Collings man, and would you kindly grab my golf clubs?"

    3) The "All I need to rock is a 2x4 and some snot"

    4) The "Can't We All Just Get Along?" aka The "Apple-shaped orange"

    5) The "Henry J killed my sister"

    6) The "I don't know about you, but I need professional quality gear I can trust" aka the "Just got the Applebee's gig in stone for 2 weekends a month"

    Babyboomers, LOL.

$3K for what used to be known as a "student" guitar.

Where's the neck PU? How can you make a guitar without a neck PU? (This goes for Gibson too).

    twofold reply..

man, thats alot of cake for such a simple guitar...

I have heard however that collings are amazing.
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.
