    I like his stuff, and his style is quite distinctive - I find it easy to tell within a few notes it's him. The sig LP also has things that would make me consider such a guitar - long scale, 24 frets, 10% bigger body, minimalist looks etc.

    For people who can't get past the bucket, I suppose Kiss gives you an automatic aneurysm?
    For him who struck thy foreign string,
    I ween this heart hath ceased to care;
    Then why dost thou such feelings bring
    To my sad spirit - old Guitar?

    Even so, Guitar, thy magic tone
    Hath moved the tear and waked the sigh;
    Hath bid the ancient torrent moan
    Although its very source is dry.

    I've heard that comparison b4, and in my eyes it doesn't hold water. Kiss was an Icon,,an original invention in the day before modern media. They had artistic ingenuity that was novel, and the vehicle to express that was the act, and the act was done on a grand scale, The Kiss Show excelled on every front; Artistic, Theatrical, and for Entertainment- a far cry from some wanker ( ok, so he's more than that..)with limited appeal using a gimmick of a Kentucky Fried Chicken Bucket on his dome to milk some notoriety.

    I'm not too familiar with his stuff, but upon a YT search it showed him being introduced by Bootsy Collins. And that's good enough for me!

    Pick any adjective you want, it will fit something has has done.

    He is one of my favorite players. I like his work, a lot of it...but some is even beyond my taste.

    I love how Kiss and ICP are entertainment but Buckethead is a hack.

    There is nothing redeeming in ICP AT ALL. Kiss... they were fun for a while. Buckethead is a really good player, a great writer and his weird stuff is no weirder than anything Vai has done.

    If some aspect of his style is not to you liking that's fine, you don't have to like him. You seem to just have a vendetta against his particular shtick.

    And as far as milking notoriety the dude has been around some 16 years or some, released many solo albums, appeared on many more and has a pretty good following. He's certainly not making millions doing his thing but he's sticking with it anyway. Writing great tunes and wearing a mask with a chicken bucket on his head... big ****in deal.

    Have you heard much of his stuff?

    He is one of the few that has written so many different flavored chunks of music that I don't think you can't find something you like.

    He is a great player. I like when he plays "outside" sounding stuff stuff. At this point he has done the bucket thing so long, can he really step away from it?

    There was a thread like this a while back, and some people posted some clips, and i was impressed and entertained by what i heard. I understand that the guy has a prodigious catalogue of work and that i probably wouldn't enjoy all of it (i don't have a high tolerance for much shreddy stuff), but i liked what was posted. The guy is obviously more than a guitar player, i'd call him a musician (and i don't call many guitar players musicians).

    As to the image .... big deal. It's no different to the fact that almost anyone you get to see these days has some kind of constructed image. Gawd, there are old guys who wear makeup, another ageing guy who always wears a schoolboy uniform, an ageing fat guy who always wears leather pants and a top hat, blah blah.

    Besides .... it seems that monsieur Buckethead is quite confident in his musical capabilities without people needing to know who he is or what he looks like, which i find kinda refreshing.

    The fact that it seems to annoy some people here is interesting. Ya can't see what he looks like if you listen to a cd, so i don't see what a quirky image and/or personality has to do with anything. He makes good music and happens to have a bucket on his head. Big deal. Personally i dig it. He is Buckethead, and he has a bucket on his head. Do try to focus on what's important won't you?

    Don't love all his work, but I can't say I like all the work of any artist either.
    He's done some great stuff, be it crazy instrumental shred rock, insane avant-garde stuff, to the very chilled, ambient clean guitar stuff.
    Admittedly, sometimes he can be a bit sloppy when he shreds but overall he's a guy with a supreme command of the instrument.
    Many guys can play shred and rock some heavy riffs but can't play dynamic, clean guitar stuff at all, but Buckethead can just do that whole diverse range with ease.
