    Default to wax or not?

Going to install those pin up girl etched chrome covers on my dimebucker and detonator pups here in the next week or so ...

I don't bet either of those pups get covered very often.

Would it be a sin to just solder em on?

    I don't think so.

The wax potting isn't going to make a huge difference, since as far as I remember, the dimebucker is already wax potted at the factory. Dunno about the detonator though.

I have a feeling you might have a hard time getting that cover on the dimebucker. Beyond that, most guys will tell you to melt some wax inside the cover as it can be microphonic on it's own. It's up to you. If it were me, I'D put them on, solder them, and repot. However, that's just me. Lots of guys will tell you the less wax, the better.

I'm not one of those guys. Maybe they don't use as much gain as I do, but then, I never thought I used that much to start with.

i know that's a pretty heavy statement to make and a bunch of dudes that love Teles and shredsticks are gona argue with me, but they're wrong.
anything you can't do on a Les Paul is because you haven't practiced enough or you don't rock hard enough.

On the Deto you'll need to drill a second row of holes if the covers don't have them already, unless you're using Super D screws and are just gonna cover them. I can't see your pics, so I have no idea what we're looking at. A Gibson bridge spaced cover fits perfect on the Deto btw. I waxed mine, and it still squealed at show volume, so I put some small plastic washers under the caps/over the cover. Very cool looking pickup with a cover on it. I didn't notice much of a difference in sound with the screws out the top of the cover.

I might use an old Dean pup instead of the detonator ...
no biggie because I never use a neck pup anyway.
No holes going in these covers.
