Doesn't sound and playability go hand in hand?

It all comes down to personal opinion.....

Some people really Love BC RICH, I hate em. Not my style.

Some love Fender style strats and teles, no my thing.

The body style of an SG weirds me out, but I still own one and rock it out. Now I prefer my LP, but you gotta give credit where credit is due. An SG is a solid guitar, it may not be your thing though.

If I remember correctly, the OP loves shredsticks. Your Ibanez/Charvel etc would be better suited for your needs than a SG would. The opposite would hold true to others.

Amazingly, the SG has been the longest-running production guitar that hasn't yet been discontinued. Evidently there's a lot of players who "get it".

I was turned off by the looks for years. Then I finally played one. I got it.

SG is called the fretless wonder because it is so easy to play!

There's always the option of a Warmoth SG. You lose the glue-tenon construction but the bodies are thicker (1 3/4") and you can put the strap button anywhere you want. Not to mention all the possible neck and body wood combinations. Korina body, q-sawn mahogany neck, ebony board, stainless frets, compound radius... hell a Floyd, why not? P-90 neck, Crazy 8 bridge. There ya go!

That's a very nice little set up you got man!

I mostly have come to like Les Paul players but I just don't like them as much. If I could I would play an LP but I feel more comfortable with the SG, and with P90s I can get the sound I want. I think it cuts through a mix better than an LP at least IME.

This thread is somewhat pointless though, if you don't like the guitar then don't play the guitar. I love Les Paul (the guy) and I love the tones people get with LPs but they just aren't for me and if the SG isn't for you, then it isn't for you.

My SG Classic is perfectly balanced... but I have owned other SGs that were neck-heavy, so it's not like it's a myth or anything.. It's just one of those things that when you do find a perfectly-balanced SG, you should probably hang onto it.

I think they really shine the most with P-90s. Something about the way the wide, thin, all-mahogany body gets to resonating like a soundboard and translates into some big open P-90 tone really gets me grinning...
Both you guys have me seriously GASing for some P-90 SG action.

    Bastards.
Every love that made me lose my reasoning. Every chord that made my conscience ache. Every day spent counting hours. Well, none of them comes close to singing back a song inside my head.

    I remember calloused hands and paint-stained jeans, and I remember safe-as-houses self-belief.

Perhaps for some. One of my favourite players is an SG guy and gets amazing tone. Every time I play one, the sound is nice but I just don't enjoy a guitar whose neck feels thicker than the body. I've played a faded, a standard, and one other one (I wish I could remember which model it was) and all of them felt too burly for me to get the best I could out of it.

I guess that telecasters, Stratocasters, and Rick’s don’t count, even if they have at least a decade on the SG...

New for 2012 ! Gibson introduces the S.S. SG! To do away with the neck going down like the Titanic, there will be a stylish boat anchor attached to the rear strap button! There will be a classic inlay of a floatation donut at the 12 fret! Gilligan hat while playing will be optional!! Avail color will be Nautical White.
This will be a limited edition collectible, so dont let miss the boat!!
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

SRV sounded amazing but I'd never dare gig a guitar set up like his.
