    Default Gibson Explorer - Pinstriping

    Hey guys!

Sadly I'm not able to use the search function of the board, it doesn't work but I don't know why.

Well, a friend of mine does pinstriping and I would love getting my Gibson Explorer pinstriped. To me it seems to be a small problem that the guitar shape is asymmetrical, maybe I'm wrong, who knows.

Does anybody have pictures of pinstriped Explorers (or maybe Firebirds, they're pretty similar...)?

When you say pinstripe do you mean something like this:

    or more like this:

As far as Explorers go, Gibson had some interesting paint jobs in the mid-80's that might interest you:

    There's also this:

and I found this Ibanez Destroyer with some racing stripes:

    Hope that helps a bit!

    Hey dd12939!

Thanks for your post, but none of the pics you've posted shows what I want.
I want something in the style of 50s Hot Rods:

im sure it would look cool. if its your friend that would do the work then i would just let him look at the guitar and see what he envisions.

Yeah, I love that vintage look. She said I should bring a lot of pictures with stripings I like, therefore I'm looking for some Explorer pictures.

Look for cars from the late 50's with cool pins.

What color is the guitar? I would probably pull something from the bridge down as opposed to the bottom of the body up. Flip what the Rev has on the bottom of the LP upside down something like that, maybe a pinstriped bat hanging upside down off the tailpiece

DD12939 hit it. I was gonna suggest you research the run that gibson did in the 80s that had the pinstriping on it.

Yeah, I've seen some great Chevies and Oldsmobiles with great pins.

That's my axe. We'll use vintage white (like the coil from the bridge PU) and red I think. I like a clean look, not to overloaded. The style of the toilet seat is great, funny idea

Maybe we'll use an iron cross, too - would love it.

Let the good ideas roll buddies!

Gibson designer series is what he is talking about. Pretty cool. Looking at them in an old guitar rag this afternoon.

Can't find the pic I am looking for but I have seen and explorer with some really cool pins on the bout that kicks back. It had a very Rockabilly-esque spider web on it that was seriously cool.

Yeah, something rockabilly-like is what I'm searching for, I hope you'll find the picture.
The iron cross pins are well done, that's probably the way to go for me.

**** yeah, Olavi Mikkonen's Explorer is also great, but I don't want to have a copy

It's not an Explorer, but I think this goes with the style of pinstriping you're going for.
