Great information on the 13-pin/Roland connection. I'll look into these machines you mention. Thanks a lot, man.

And for anyone playing the guessing game, here's a blurry shot of the back of the headstock! Woo!

(I don't think you'll be able to make out that serial number but no googling it if you can)

Also, here's a blurry picture of the stuff I took out. I can't find a manufacturer's name on it anywhere.

Kam, I think that you have the kit version of the Roland GK-2. (It has a proper name but I cannot remember it.) There should be a metal piece and a screw at the end of the hex pickup where the cable leaves it.

True Roland guitar synth controller officiandos should recognise a mint condition Roland LPK-1 when they see one.

Go right ahead. Make my (bank manager's) day.

No clue, but those Roland GK-2's are a ton of fun.

Sorry, man, time got away from me last night. It's a nice day here, though. I'll try to get some decent pictures taken outside in natural light and throw them up later.

    Here's another quick close-up, though...

With little notes scrawled on each one like "better with Honey Mustard" and "tastes more like pork than chicken"

I'll second the GI20/GK3 thing. Those are neat, however the GI20 isn't a synth, it's an interface. I had one and foolishly sold it. I used it with my Alesis QSR for the sounds, and while it was a lot of fun, the latency was a bit annoying (coulda been the QSR), and the system demands impeccable technique.

You don't know how sloppy you really are until you try to play through a synth, because it will let you know when you're fat-fingering that neighboring string ever-so-slightly.

The guitar is a Squier Super Chronic, sorry, Sonic. (The model that Astrozombie said he was going to buy about two years ago!)

Yeah but, Yeah but .... if he plays it through a GI20 he can retune the strings in MIDI so they're the right way round, not need to actually physically take them off and swap them around. Bending high notes might take a bit of getting used to though .....

    Huh?

I googled that and all I got was links to some awful metal band...

    I knew you'd get it.

Yup. That's what I'm doing. The first time I heard about these things was a few years ago in an article in Guitar World or something. I've always loved that Fender off-set sort of shape so I got it into my head that I could get one and restring it.

Then I forgot about that for a few years.

Then I realised that the one of my favourite guitarists in one of my favourite bands was doing just that...

Though, he did eventually route it for more conventional control placement.

That put the idea in my head again and I ended up picking one up for a decent price on Ebay.

    Pics uploading right now.

Awesome, man. It's good to know what it is. Thanks.

I'll say this, whoever installed it did a really professional job...right up to the last step. All the routing and fitting of switches and outputs was done really clean and neatly. However, he obviously misjudged the height of the pickup. You can see the scratch marks where the strings have been vibrating against it when he played higher up the neck. That must've been a serious "D'oh!" moment. I guess he probably could've shimmed the neck and raised the saddles but it probably seemed like too much effort.

Technically, Omar from At The Drive-In. He retired his Supersonic when they broke up, as far as I know.

But yup. I ****ing love that guy.

    Scratches on the top edge of the hexaphonic pickup could be caused by one of three things;
    1) Mis-match between the radii of the fingerboard and the hex pickup polepieces.
    2) Over-enthusiastic upbending on the vibrato bridge.
    3) Both of the above.

This doesn't differentiate it from any other guitar in history.
