Default The least expensive currently produced guitar Made In The USA.

My best guess is a four-way tie between the Les Paul, SG, Flying V and Explorer Melody Makers at $539 MAP.

    Can anyone beat that?

Well, now I feel stupid. It didn't occur to me that the non-LE version was cheaper. Hurrr.

Wow, those are way cheaper than I thought they'd be. I was just gonna take a guess at Carvin or something.

Yeah, they're super affordable. Their desirability is perhaps up for some debate, but the price is amazingly low for an American-made instrument.

If you allow for Canadian made stuff in your prices (we're like the US's boring younger brother) . . . I can get you there for 10$ cheaper: http://backstage.musiciansfriend.com...lectric-guitar

That doesn't mean they good guitars. Just because Americans put something together, doesn't guarantee its quality.

I've never liked the "cheap" Gibsons. There is a reason they are cheap.

Just look at the American educational system: designed and implemented by Americans.

    Why do you ask?

[please, please let it be simple curiosity]

Totally simple curiosity. And that, when the thought occurred to me, I could name more USA Gibson models under $1K than almost any other brand, yet Gibson takes a lot of sht for being overpriced.

I think the problem is that American made stuff is just really expensive next to MIK or MIC.

Lets face it, no one ever mentions the huge price tags on PRS stuff

I didn't say they were good. I've never played one. As far as I know, my kind aren't welcome at the Melody Maker home (my kind being left handed). I was simply surprised at their cost relative to their place of origin, that's all. Nowhere did I mention quality, or lack thereof. It seems that you're the one connecting the two there.

Last I heard production of everything under the 300 series had been moved a couple of miles South....into Mexico. I could be wrong though.

I cant open that link. Melody makers are $399 at musicians friend..
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

Didn't know that, sorry. I've got a Big Baby from 2001 or 2002 that is MIA; just assumed they still were.

2002 MIA: $299 MAP, iirc. I payed a little less than that.

    2011 MIM $450 MAP.

Nine years is long enough that, okay, I guess maybe I could see a 50% increase in the price...maybe. But a 50% increase AND they're saving on labor costs by building them in Mexico? Jeez, I need some stock in Taylor!

EDIT: Actually, I think the 2002 MAP was $325, the more I think about it. So my %s are a bit off.

I thought Godins were made in both Canada and the US. Either way, I'd say Canada counts, as the theme of the thread seems to be finding the cheapest guitar that isn't made by people being paid pennies an hour. Godins are a better value than the Gibson MM IMO, but of course Godin doesn't have much of an image to help sales so their markup is understandably smaller.
