Default ants texas hots - custom wound?

    hey bros,

i chance upon this guy in harmony central who is selling a set of ants texas hots at $149. funny thing is, he has a custom wound texas hot in the bridge. afaik, i thought that will be the 9k + texas hot custom bridge. but no! its a custom wound texas hot at 7+ k! here is what he said.

    - The bridge is not the custom antiquity you are talking about.  The one I have is a Texas Hot wound hotter for the bridge. It is not 9k ohm but just over 7k ohm.  This is a more unique and harder to find Antiquity bridge and is designed to maintain the character of a vintage pickup throughout the set.  The bridge is still plenty hot to differentiate from the other pickups. -

do duncan actually produce this or is he trying to pull a fast one? what do you think i should do; buy or pass?

    thanks bros!

I've never heard of that and I'd be suspicious. However, there is a fair ammount of range interms of DC Resistance with the Antiquitys. Every one measures a differant DC Resistance. I like the really hot Ant Texas Hot Custom bridge pickups and I've found them measuring between 9.5K and 10.2K I use one that is over 10K for my own guitar. I have no problem with balance issues. I'm a Strat nut, and if it didn't sound great I wouldn't use it. Lew

that was my thinking exactly. a texas hot custom wound for the bridge to slightly over 7k does sound abit dodgy. i saw the amount of strat you have in your signature and i definitely trust your ears lew! btw, i sent you a pm.

Yep! Been a Strat player since about 1970. They are my favorite guitar, followed by the Tele. I rarely play anything else. Lew

I dunno! Areal Antiquity has a hand written date and Seymour's handwritten signature on the bottem. Ask about that. Maybe ask the guy to scan the bottems of all three pickups and then send the photo to you. Then you can post it here and we'll be able to tell you if it's real or not. lew

well, the Custom Shop lists a strat pup wound to around 7k, just not a bridge. I'd want to make sure that whatever he has is really an Antiquity ... that is, that it is wound with 'period correct' polarity, like the antiquities, so you don't have any phase issues.
I guess the seller is saying this pickup was custom wound. the price is good, but this is a problem with ebay - some sellers don't really know what they have, and others just plain misrepresent.
