Default TV Jones pickups - experiences?

Was thinking about 'trons and came across this clip

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8fL3_faqTc

Really enjoyed the sounds at :18 and 2:05, but other than that can't find too many rock/blues clips. Mostly country twang, gretsch style.

Anyone had any experiences playing trons in these genres? Pros and cons?

You may have already seen this clip with TV Jones himself playing an Ibanez RG with a Classic Plus installed in the bridge!

Got no experience myself, though I am also rather curious. Soundgarden comes to mind when I think of heavy rock and filtertrons, though I really have no idea how many tracks Chris Cornell cut with his Gretsch Duo Jet. The guitarist from The Living End uses a White Falcon and has kind of a high-gain tone.

No, hadn't seen that clip - thanks for that!

Love the sound he's getting and especially from an RG! Was thinking about a TV Classic Plus bridge, Supertron neck or maybe Supertron bridge and Classic neck.

    Powertrons are excellent...
Bill Gibbons uses the Powertron Plus

I am not a fan of the Classic Plus... the Powertron is the way to go for a beefier tone.

The Classics are great as well... especially in a Strat or Tele with 250k pots to tame the brightness

Malcolm Young uses the Classic Plus, so I'd hardly disregard it. Really depends on where the FilterTron to Humbucker spectrum you want that guitar to sit...

I've liked most everything I've heard from TV Jones, best sounding FilterTrons I've heard. Magnatron and Classics particularly interest me, probably because they're the least like the humbuckers I generally go for. Intriguing take on P-90s, too.

The TV Jones Classic is the best FilterTron I've heard. Gretsch even uses TV Jones pickups in many of their high end models. [I do think it makes sense to use a hotter wound bridge model, though! Position-compensated winds are a good idea!]

i was browsing a coffe table book on guitarists. Rev. Jim "Horton" Heat(h) tells the story about how he found an 80s Gretsch w TVj in Montreal, (or maybe Toronto?! ferget) that had a slight tele spank. He bought it and thats his main axe on FullCustom Sounds. now, i really enjoy Smoke Em, best tunes, but I saw the Full Custom tour right up front: that tone is Ssssoooooo beautiful, like the sound of shovel digging a grave on a rainy day. I thought maybe there was something really precious goin on. I know Setzer has 1/8" ply, paid $100at a yard sale or somethin. But the Revs doesnt seem particular precious to replicate. i dont think this spank is that noticeable, but the warm microphonic lo tech harmonic distortion richness belongs on Siouxsies Tinderbox ( if you arent familiar, Jon Valentine Carruthers plays a wonderful assortment of museum quality tones on that disc/album~i highly recommend it for the kaleidoscope of British flavored guitar sounds in the family of Gretsch, National, Hagstrom, Mosrite, Vox teardrop, NewYorker, u get my drift)
So now im iiiiitchin to replace my Gretsch stocks w Filtertron, (but i dont know how to wire hollow3 bodies!)

the powertron is an amazing pickup, and tv jones is an extremely nice company

by accident one time i ordered a pickup in the wrong mount, emailed them, within a day i had an RA number and sent it back to them no problem, got the new one in just over 2 weeks

TV Jones as great pickups, probably among the best I've tried. I am familiar with TV Classic and TV Classic Plus: they totally sound like old Filtertrons, which for me means single coil-like clarity with added beef and fatness.
The TV Classic Plus is my favourite for shure.
Powertrons are probably as good as you can expect; Despair said it right, it "Really depends on where the FilterTron to Humbucker spectrum you want that guitar to sit..."

I had a Gretsch with TV Jones Powertrons and it was totally KILLER! I would love to put a set in one of my other guitars.

i have a set of HB-sized tv classics and they do great dirty tones.
smooth, great clarity and still has the same character, just louder and dirtier

you can get old-school metal tones out of them if you want to, don't let all the clean clips scare you off

I've heard (not played) several Gretsch guitars live with Powertrons in the blues/classic rock tone zone. They absolutely smoked. It was like they were between a Tele and a Rickenbacker clean and then retained that character but grew in fatness when heated up.

I definitely want to build a Jazzmaster shaped guitar loaded with TVJs.

Just bought myself a pre-owned Classic. This will be going into my PRS SE One. I shall record a few sound clips as soon as I get the chance.

I put Powertrons in my Silver Jet and think the guitar can do blues and rock without a problem. The nice thing is that you can also do the country/rockabilly with them as well.

TV Jones is a great company to work with and offer the best customer service you could imagine.

My Crazy Heart Gretsch has two TV Jones pickups: a Filtertron and a Supertron. They're cool. I haven't traded them out for Seymour's Custom Shop versions yet just because of the sentimental nature of the guitar. But I might someday.
