my favorite humbuckers period are the Antiquities...but any low-output alnico 2 humbucker will do in a pinch.
You're on the right track with A2P's...they have a really good, balanced tone. If not those I would look at the Seth Lovers or Antiquities but none of those are gona be a bad choice.
For what it's worth, one of my good buddies has a Les Paul with 57 Classics...another alnico 2 humbucker made by Gibson...I brought over my Les Paul with Ants to compare the two...not even close. The Gibson buckers are good and have an even, balanced, usable tone...whereas the Ants sparkle with glittery magic and harmonic complexities and overtones that makes the guitar sound like a living, breathing monster made of the spirit of rock-n-roll.
After playing his Goldtop then picking up my Custom and playing a riff, he looked at me and said "Dude that's just not fair."

70's these days, i bet you could get a set of Ants and break even...
