Options for Ibanez 2630 (335 clone)?

I have a 1979 Ibanez 2630 which is semi hollow body, with maple body, neck, and ebony fingerboard plus super 80 ceramic pickups, all of which means BRIGHT!!!
I'd like to warm it up and thinking about Alnico II pickups. Is this a good way to go...i.e. SD alnico 2 pros...? Also I don't know what the pot/vol/tone values are?. What do you folks suggest?
Has anyone done a similar swap/replacement? I play mostly classic rock/blues/country etc. Looking for a warmer feel, better sustain, not necessarily more power. "clean dirt" desired. All replies welcome.

my favorite humbuckers period are the Antiquities...but any low-output alnico 2 humbucker will do in a pinch.

You're on the right track with A2P's...they have a really good, balanced tone. If not those I would look at the Seth Lovers or Antiquities but none of those are gona be a bad choice.

For what it's worth, one of my good buddies has a Les Paul with 57 Classics...another alnico 2 humbucker made by Gibson...I brought over my Les Paul with Ants to compare the two...not even close. The Gibson buckers are good and have an even, balanced, usable tone...whereas the Ants sparkle with glittery magic and harmonic complexities and overtones that makes the guitar sound like a living, breathing monster made of the spirit of rock-n-roll.

After playing his Goldtop then picking up my Custom and playing a riff, he looked at me and said "Dude that's just not fair."

For the price those EVH dudes are paying for Super 80's these days, i bet you could get a set of Ants and break even...

i had an artist solidbody from the late 70s and a friend had an artist semi (i think it was a scofield model?) with lots of toggle switches etc. They were both awesome, and as a gibson player i can unreservedly say they were both every bit as good if not better than the gibsons they are copies of.
Pickup wise, for the semi i reckon a pair of 59s is unbeatable, but im not a huge A2 fan, cos i like bottom end. Im sure pgs would sound killer too if you like a more mid voiced, more vintage sound.

Fixed that for you...nobody wants the Super 80s. They're basically Super 70s with ceramic magnets and are super bright. The weird epoxy potting didn't work well, either. I'd say the op also on the right track with the A2Ps. I had a set of Super 70s in my 77 2630 for a while-they're nice, but a bit more powerful than A2Ps-also a Rio Grande BBQ and Kent Armstrong Vintage-Armstrong was 'meh'- then a Matsumoku MMK45 and old Dimarzio PAF. Of all those, I liked the Rio Grande, but then, I'm more of a 'dirt dirt' kinda guy.

You absolutely can not go wrong with Seth or Antiquitys in that guitar. The Gibson Burstbucker 1 & 2 would also be a good choice. And if you wanted to keep it "All Ibanez", find some Super 58s.
