Default What pup will make somebody else sound like me?

I'd like to know, cos I really love my playing and tone, and I know a magic set of pups will allow someone else to sound just like me, and they will be very happy some day in the future when I'm old and a meth addict and cannot remember what I used to use.

This is a cheesy question, indeed. Pickup some Rocqueforte to sound Camembert, me thinks.

Oh. Oh! I know, a Super Distortion through a Gorilla Amp and a DOD American Metal distortion pedal.

Just gotta make sure its the Gorilla with reverb, and the original 3 knob American Metal, not the SUPER American Metal.

And the SuperD has to be double-cream, right? I mean, double-black or zebra just wouldn't be right.

Actually it really depends on the color of the string wrapper my futuristic disciple will be using.

I definitely see what you did there. As a Kid I cut grass and threw down 147 dollars twice for a Gibson Iommi set but those pickups are in two retired guitars and I play a strat.

Anywho yeah it's annoying seeing grown men tone chasing after a millionaires tone.. When you are actually playing live and/or making money... Sounding like ur heroes will eventually die down.

Playing to the stereo and rocking out to bedroom posters. Not so much.

I've grown to just rolling my eyes and ignoring it. It doesn't take that much mental effort... eyes going 360 degrees and choosing to forget something but sometimes it's fun to pick.

The whole EVH thing is filled with some much crap and fluff that it doesn't mean much. I remember Ted Nugent saying something to the extent of EVH playing on his (teds) rig still sounded like EVH. It's the play not the equipment. But then again... I think Ted used 5150's later after that statement... so I guess that statement is currently void.

There are plenty of sig model guitars out there that I want but I want them for features: Yngwie's scallops, Steve Morse's Wiring scheme, and John Petruci's forearm scoop and wiring scheme.

The pickups and their individual sound not so much. I got my own voice. IF I bought a Morse and Petrucci would toss in some low to mid gain pickups in it. However the AT-1 pup is tempting as far as risking being a hypocrite with my statments. Most of dimarzio's/duncan's crap is a tweak on preexisting pup anyways.

Dimarzio has a few special out there pickups though. Evo and Steve's special.

I think when one is needing special pickups like those... you are being to pretentious with ur music. jk.

Well now wait, are you talking about the tone on your first album or on your second album?

That happened way before the 5150's even existed, like the early 80's. But yeah, Ted went on to use 5150's after they came out and he still uses them and 6505's.

Jeff, don't you use Gorilla Snot to help you not drop your picks? I gotta get me some of that stuff.
