    Default SD BG-1400 opinions

    Given a nice Tele and a SD Custom Shop BG-1400 pickup, would you wire it as a three mode Esquire circuit or as a Telecaster? What neck position pickup would you choose as a match?

    Okay. So the pickup is wired into my modified Squier Silver Series Telecaster. (Fender USA stamped steel "ashtray" bridge, three brass saddles, through body stringing.) The controls are wired a la Fender Esquire. The guitar sounds like a juicy Esquire - certainly fuller than the Fender C.S. designed Baja/Broadcaster single coil. This ought to please me but it leaves me puzzled.

    The underside of the SD Custom Shop pickup box states the name of the original purchaser, the serial number, type, a bunch of stats and the date when MJ wound it. The pickup is described as a "tele stack" BUT the website lists no such pickup.

    So, are a CS "tele stack" and a BG-1400 one and the same design or have I misled myself over this?

    there could be lots of cs tele stacks, the bg is a particular one.

    does it read like 28-30k?

    There is a CS Tele Stack for both bridge and neck positions and the Bridge CS Tele Stack is NOT a BG-1400...It needs to read right at 28k, if it doesn't then it's not a BG-1400.

    I never found a neck pup to match the BG-1400. Wire it like the SE One, that is all it needs

    Thanks everyone.

    My pickup claims to be 30.0k Ohms. Gauss 50. Wound 05-16-05 by MJ. s/n 81348. I guess that makes it exactly what it says on the tin.

    My initial experiments via an Esquire style control circuit demonstrate that;
    1) the pickup is a d***ed fine Tele Lead unit. Certainly more believable than the STK-T3b that I once owned.
    2) the stock MIJ pots have to go. (I'll get a Fender No-Load tone control kit to preserve that Esquire "straight through" option.)
    3) the guitar deserves a second pickup.

    Stock Squier SS routing is for two single coils with the wire channel beneath the pickguard. My inclination is to choose a noise-cancelling T neck pickup. In the past, I have tried and enjoyed the STK-1n. I am also very fond of Five-Two single coils. This time, I am tempted to place an order for a CS Five-Two Stack.

    jeremy. I understand the Firebird 'bucker suggestion but I already tried that concept on a Fender HR '52 Tele (that I sold last year). If I were going to set about the guitar to enlarge its routs, the most likely candidate in my parts drawer would be a P90 Stack.

    My next attempt to match a neck was going to be a Hot Tele but I ended up just ditching my Teles for a while.

    Got a funky one in the works right now, low buck from parts I have accumulated, I don't even know what the pickup in it is?

    Me too. Some winder do strat style pickups that fit into the neck slot of a Tele. They are by far a superior choice.
