What pots are you using with your UOA5 Custom?

Did some magnet swapping and pot swapping lastnight in my Super Tele.

Neck has a stock Duncan 59 with 500K Volume / 500K Tone.

The Custom in the bridge was sounding kinda shrill next to my Les Pauls, so I put in some 300K/300K pots, and changed the magnet to an UOA5.

Big drop in volume, clarity, balls, everything... really uninspiring sound.

This is my zillionth magnet swap, and soldering/electronics install, so I'm certain that I did it right. Do you need to use 500K pots with the UOA5s?

I run all my HB guitars with Master Volume and Master Tone.

I use two CTS Audio taper 500K pots with a Mojotone .022 600V PIO cap.

When you swap mags, allow a couple of days for the magnet to fully permeate the materials and the magnetic field to stabilize before making any final judgement.

I know it sounds like cork-sniffer stuff, but after really many swaps under my belt, I just can't ignore the evidence.

Placebo effect? It may as well be. Yet...

I like warm bridges, maybe warmer than the average guy, and I use two 250K's with my UOA5's in the bridge slot. I get midrange punch, dynamics, and just enough treble for bite and crunch. It also means I can turn up the treble on my amp, higher than I normally would, and that helps out the neck PU's clarity and definition.

Yes, you can use two 500K's on any bridge PU and dial down the tone knob, but I don't think the tone sounds as good that way. I much prefer dealing with excess treble up front, with magnets and pots. Who ever max's out the treble on their amp? There's always more available there.

BTW, everytime I play out I get compliments on my tones.
