Default bright pup + bright guitar = ?

freaking awsome. i decides to put the TB-6 in my jackson SL-1 just for laughs. i figured it would be crazy bright and kinda thin. well i dont know why but this pup sounds big and chunky but also searing and clear in this guitar. it is like a bright fat if that makes sense. well really overall it pretty balanced.

but anyways it was my last pick ever for a floyded maple neck thru and low and behold best that axe has sounded

maple is really focused tonally, and tightens up various frequencies. I've never considered maple bright per se, but a lot of guitarists do.

Ceramic rules in maple!!! my favorite bridge humbuckers for maple (either maple bodies or maple neck-thru blocks):

    Duncan JB
    Duncan Screamin Demon
    Duncan Distortion
    Dimarzio Super 3
    Dimarzio X2N
    Dimarzio D Activator
    Bare Knuckle Miracle Man
    EMG 81
    Wilde L500L & XL

Maple is a WEIRD tonewood. A C8 sounded bright and tinny in it, but an A4 '59 sounded full and smooth.

It's because it has a lot of high mids and a lot of really low-range treble, then has a quick cutoff point. It needs a high resonant peak, because if your peak is too low, then it will exacerbate the upper mid/low treble spike. An exception to this is the JB. Its high mid spike seem to really blend well with the spike of maple.

Actually, all other factors the same brighter pickups generally work better in neckthru guitars than bolt-ons. This is because the construction method adds a Low midrange hump or "spike" and attenuates the highs slightly (comppared to a bolt-on which for this comparison is regarded as "neutral"), both factors that compliment a pickup like the DD very well

This is an interesting thread. I find myself attracted to ceramic bridge pups, and mostly like maple neck/maple top LPs....Hmmmm.

I hear you aceman its like I found out a secret nobody would tell. Maybe this is why so many people get turned of by neckthru guitars. They think the need a dark pup but they don't at all
