    Default Classic Stack Plus: WTH?!?

    Got this off eBay

Despite the fact that the wiring diagrams for these show 4 wires and a bare ground, mine only has 2 wires and a ground. The spot where the red wire would go has never been connected?!? Am I correct in assuming this is some sort of OEM Classic Stack Plus that is not splittable? If so, that's fairly annoying. I was assuming they were all the same. Doh!

I just put one in my strat with white to hot lead, red was there and I taped it off per diagram, black and drain(wire) to ground.
If the red is to be taped off maybe someone took it out or clipped it as it has nowhere to go per diagram.
Works great. I did not do any coil splitting tricks, straight in between lil59-neck, JBjr.-bridge. I only saw this as I am going to post a thread recommending the Strat Plus classic stack s a better sound (2-4 positions for cool quack). The Duckbucker that came with the Everything Axe Set I traded in for the STK+. So STK+ for middle pu IMHO.

    do you really need splitting?
Its designed to sound like a single coil already.

I did more checking and you need the red wire to do any coil splitting, with white still to lead and the rest to ground. It looks like it would be fairly easy to add a new wire in the hole marked red.

Well, it's turned out to be a moot point anyway as the routs in my guitar aren't deep enough for it and there's no way I'm routing them out. DOH! I'm actually getting along with the Vintage Rails in the neck and middle better than I expected I was, but I was itching to give one of these a try. And the splitting is useful if you want to combine, say a middle position stack plus with a split bridge humbucker; it will allow you to get complete noise-cancelling.

Looking at the photograph, the output cable of your pickup has felt the touch of a soldering iron more than once.

Another clue, screenprinted onto the PCB, is the legend, Rev 2. The most recent examples might well have a higher revision number than this.
