    Default A master at work

You can't play any more perfect than this. This is just incredible.

Good trades with: Dominus, Jackson Distortion, Richard, DWVINKY, Notesfeld, Inhuman, Brunogio, SFW, Jolly, Darthphineas,

    EB 11-52.

I love Joe's playing. He's a very well rounded player, and I don't think there is anything he can't play. He can go from Yngwie, to BB, and everything in between.

Amazing chops. Stunning technique and virtuosity. He references all the greats in his playing, pays homage to them and his playing even goes to the next level....

....but there is something deeply uncool about the whole thing in my book.

    ...just an opinion.

+2. Amazing technical player, and always seems to be "on the money".

But I'm not a big believer in "perfection" when it comes to guitar playing. He's like the "Satch" of blues-rock. It's all very clinical.

I have his Live DVD from the RAH, and it took me a year to actually finally complete watching the thing I got so bored every time I put it in.

Are you kidding? I don't know what video you were watching but there was nothing clinical about that. Joe is a great player not only because he has the most envious command of the guitar, but when he lets go you can feel it. I've never heard Joe Satriani described as "clinical" before, but I guess there are some people out there who feel that way.

My opinion of Paul Kossoff is probably shocking to most people because he sounds like an average club player to me. My only criticism of Joe is that he makes too many contemporary blues songs. Black Rock was not good for me and Dust Bowl was a minor improvement over that, but if you go back only a couple of years to Ballad of John Henry and that's one soulful album.

That is why art is subjective. To me at least, Joe Bonnamassa is a great technician....but not necessarily my cup of tea. It is kind of like shred....so many notes ...... it is like they throw every possible note in for good measure.

As far as electric blues....this is more what I dig...but then again, it is all subjective.

Agreed. I think that's one of the pitfalls of musicians who are too diverse. Sometimes they tend to lose there own voice in all they've learned or borrowed. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Nope not kidding. The DVD is JoeB Live at Royal Albert Hall.

I'd be happy to sell it to you if you want a copy

If I'm going for the contemporary white blues rock guy thing, my vote goes to KWS.

You got that feeling too? Would you be able to describe it more?

I can't say what it is exactly, but maybe it's a little too good, or too perfect, when I expect it not to be.

I may have to take a sip of the ol' hater'ade here. There is no denying that he's a really talented guitar player. There's just something about what he does that rubs me the wrong way. Honestly, and please flame away, I'd prefer to listen to John Mayer than this guy. And I hold Mayer in pretty high regard. There's something very phony about this guy, he's trying to push some kind of rock star image, but he's just a nerdy white dude who can play really well.

And seriously, I didn't even watch the video, I just listened to it as I read these posts and typed mine, every thing he just played was right out of the SRV book. He did a cool thing with some swells there towards the end, violin like sounds. But everything else sounded way to SRVish. When I hear stuff like that I think man, I'd so much rather be listening to Stevie. Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, and John Mayer are miles ahead of Joe B.
