Default Updated looks on the Epi Pro/Fx

Swapped out the Epiphone chrome covers for a Zebra Dimarzio Super Distortion bridge and a Duncan Designed Jazz neck (HB102N). I had a black Dimarzio Super II in the neck but I wanted something a little more subtle. Clean, there is a big difference with the plus going to the Duncan, but with a Mesa type distortion, not much. However, the mags are out of phase, and with the coil splitting option, I'm getting the most wicked 70s tones out of that middle position I ever had. It's the most prominent with the neck bucker full and the Super D split. If you're familiar with The Outlaws, imagine the Hurry Sundown lead tone and the Green Grass and High Tides Forever middle out of phase tone. Schweet.

Unintentionally, it has that "Slash" look now, with the two zebra pickups having the cream bobbin on the neck side. Here's some pics, flash on and flash off. The actual color (desert sand) is somewhere in the middle.

    My songs....enjoy! (hopefully )

Much improved visually and sounds like tonally is way better!
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

Thank you, guys. Yes, it sounds infinitely better than the stock pickups, which may have been the worst I've ever heard on a cheap guitar. It still needs some adjustments because I brought it for a setup and it played great, then suddenly it started getting plinky again on a few frets, so I've raised the action a lot on the bass side and a little on the treble to compensate. I'd say if you can get one cheap and used, go for it, but don't pay new prices like I did--right before the price drop as well!

Congrats Bro, a definite improvement if I might say so.

Double Zebra, cream side up on both is the only way IMHO...

(The last is an MSPaint reversal of the bridge pickup but the guitar's current pickup actually is like so, a Suhr Tom Aldrich if you'd care to know )

It was your pic in the guitar showdowns that made me try zebras in my purple sunburst Jay Turser Les Paul. It's not both cream bobbins towards the neck, but it looks wicked just the same. OLP pickups that surprised me at how good they sound. I gotta post some picks of that as well.

Alil OT, but not.. I used to hate zebra pups..Liked all black or all white or double cream. Now Im really digging zebs..

Its funny how epi pups can be hit and miss like that. Some epis Ive had have had terrible pups. The ones that came in my limited run Trans black (which is dubbed a custom shop) had pretty decent pups stock..

Yup. I had three Epi Les Pauls in the early 00s, and two had pickups that were terrible, and one that was okay. The pickups in my Epi Lucille were really good, and my buddy's doubleneck pickups are fine as well.

I was the same with the colors there. Double cream in everything, ha ha. Now, double cream seems boring to me and I love zebra and/or black. Weird, huh?
