    Default Jb/Custom 5 Hybrid help

Hello Duncanites, Ive been a long time fan of this forum but only reciently have I decided to join. I have been intrigued by the Hybrid Idea and recently set out on to accomplish the task with the hunbuckers that i had around the house, a custom custom and a JB. So I made the hybrid using the slug coil from the custom and the mag and screw from the Jb. I put the pickup in my Warrior and had mixed feelings about it. It was very dynamic, lots of harmonics totally a killer pickup, it was the best the warrior had souned but had way to much treble. Also i was playing though my Line 6 spider II 2x12 not my Engl but I expect the results to be the same. So I was thinking about either trying a 250K volume pot or a mag Swap. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the mag swap to the alnico II from the custom custom will change the voice of the pup, softer high end and richer mids.

changing the volume to a 250k will reduce the treble but keep the voicing pretty much the same

You could also try an A8. It will get you more output, more low mids, but the highs will be a bit rounder, less piercing. It will not sound as sweet as an A2, but will have a tighter bottom end.

If you have the remaining two coils, try putting together a hybrid from the JB's slug coil and the custom's screw coil. The JB coil is the stronger of the two, and by using the JB's screw coil, which sits closer to the bridge and senses more high frequency/harmonic content, you are putting emphasis on those freqs. Using the custom's relatively weaker coil in the screw position and the JB's relatively stonger coil, you will de-emphasize the treble and get back some more of your lows and low mids.

The A2 swap should do the trick!
