Default Pickup for Rock Maple body Guitar?

I got the "Hard Rock" maple guitar Superstrat. Now what pickup for it to rock hard?
Im thinking Custom Custom..something to take the edge off the highs..yet with that Seymour Duncan signature sound.
Or how about a Crazy8..too bright?

Take the edge off? Come on, I say go with it, don't fight it. Turn into the skid and mount up a Screamin' Demon!

Well, thats what George Lynch did I think, at least I know he used to use Maple bodied guitars but he had a lot more to work with than I.

I've read that Maple guitars aren't as bright as people think they are.

Well, they may be talking about the "Soft Maple" 'Big leaf' variety of the species, cause from my 'sperience with a Gibson Maple guitar and also a Westone, the Hardrock Maple is bright with Sustain for eons, and some cripsy bite off the attack of the note.
I would imagine hard Rock Maple to be similar to Hard Nprthern Ash. and a candidate for what EVH may have actually built his original Frankie, although a lot of people feel as though it was Hard Ash.

Well, my maple guitar is very bright, but I have a couple factors adding to it: neck-thru plus ebony 'board.

I know my 1st post sounded like a joke, but I seriously think it should be considered. Sometimes when I've tried to band-aid, or 'fix' a guitar's inherent tone, I just made it sound dead. There was no synergy working between wood & electronics. Then, going to a pup that accentuated the natural tone just made it alive and crankin'.

Lynch used a Duncan Distortion in the early days with his maple bodied guitars.

Wwow, this thread really delivered for me. Cool to hear Lynch used a D.D, thats bright enough..and yeah 7, I know what you mean for sure, you can't just slap a warm pickup onto a bright guitar and expect that it'll be a 100% fix anything .
LOL,maple guitars aren't as bright as some people *say they think they are..thats true probably.

Ya know, again I'm wondering. Did Lynch use maple with the distortion simply cause in those days we didnt have the pickups that could cut through live, yet maintain clarity under gain that we do today?

I used an A2 JB in a rock maple body/maple neck/Floyd strat, sounded killer!

JB with your choice of magnet kicks ass in an all maple guitar! I've got one in my all maple neck thru with maple sides, OFR and ebony fret board.
Maple tightens the JB and reduces any harshness.

Hmm, that's 3 people. I tried the JB in mahogany, basswood, alder and gave up on it. The bass was a bit too loose or the treble right in a range that's fatiguing to my ear, or both. I must say t4d, Deva, & zinc have me intrigued about it w/maple.

As mentioned, the Demon worked, for Lynch. He did use a Distortion, but "didn't like the tone", then he used one of Duncan's "tone pickups", but didn't get the drive. More recently, he's used a JB. How about a Super V?

I know you didn't say anything about George, but, he's the one guy that comes to mind, when I think of maple body guitars.

A lot of experience with maple guitars. My absolute favorite pickups in hard maple were the JB (A5 first, then A2) and the BKP VHII. The Screamin' Demon works best in SOFT maple.

You can't really make maple sound like anything except mple, no matter how hard you try and no matter what pickup you end up with...Been there, done that.
