Its a 1984 SS signature with the stock HSS setup and an OFR. What are they?

Did they ever make flat ssl-1s? Or just ssl-2s? These are flat. It makes sense that its a JB though since its a very hot pickup.

Flat SSL-1's are SSL-2's and they may very well be SSL-2's and a JB...

The pickups will say on the back what they are...next time you change strings just pull the pickups and check.

Also a quick DC reading will be a good starting point...

Its my dad's guitar. Ill check in a couple of weeks when i fly home. Im installing a pair of LIL 59s in it since he already has a strat. If theyre ssl-2s im putting them in MY strat. Lol

And if its a JB in the bridge, i very well may do an A2 swap.

I am 99.9% positive that the bucker is a JB...Steve was a JB user for several decades until a quick switch to the Custom Custom for only a few years then the SS BK pickups came out...however in the 80's...all JB's!

Update: theyre not duncans. Theyre hamer pickups. The humbucker has an alnico magnet. I put a TB6 in is since the string spacing was soooo mich wider than the stock humbucker. It sounds 10x better now.... For middle and neck replacements im thinking about lil 59s.

Yep, they are OEM pickups made by DiMarzio. Not to be confused with Hamer's import line, they are refered to as Hamer Slammer pickups. They were all double black and wound to around 10K and 16K so Hamer would have matched pairs for their H-H pickup layouts. The single coils with the flat poles were made by DiMarzio and are true single coils. Jol would end the relationship with Larry by 1988 and would use Seymour Duncans all the way up until now with their custom orders. The pups are comparable to the JB, jazz and SSL-2 Duncan analogues. I'd actually compare the 16K bridge pup to a BK Holy Diver.

If the TB-6 sounded significantly better, the 10K was probably in the bridge.

I just picked up an LTD H-401 shell on ebay. Im going to see how this dimarzio/hamer pup sounds in it with various magnets.

anything you can't do on a Les Paul is because you haven't practiced enough or you don't rock hard enough.

Congrats on acquiring the 80's Steve Stevens! 80's Hamers were great guitars, and the Steve Stevens looked cool and was made to rock.
zenmindedbeginner is correct. And if you haven't done so yet, there is a network of Hamer enthusiasts on the Hamer Fan Club forum you can get in touch with. Some of them are always on the lookout for original vintage Hamer parts, so if you decide to sell the Slammer pickups rather than swapping magnets and using them in another guitar, there are people who will gladly give them a good home.

I like the Slammer single coils a lot for clean tones. Two on together is one of the nicest clean tones I've heard.

Some years later, the Steve Stevens guitar did come equipped with a JB and SSL-1's. But not in 1984.

The SS hamer dimarzio humbucker tests out at 10.8.

And 11.8 with an A8 magnet.
