42 & 43 as stated in the opening thread... the Custom(43) actually has more winds than the 59(42) as it is a thinner wire, but they roughly put about the same amount of actual copper mass on the bobbin... the different gauges have their unique response characteristics that when combined in a hybrid produce an amazing pallette of tone.
I am not aware of what direction Di and Gi wind their coils in relation to Seymour...

Backtorock, I know you recommend going Hybrid primarily with Duncans, but I have to ask, if I haven't asked you already:
What do you think of the possibility of an AirZone/Virtual PAF hybrid? Same EQ shape according to DMZ's charts. Are they within your wire gauge parameters?
Ok, I am going to ask what may be the dumb question of the day. I have a 59 Trembucker (TB59-1B) and a Custom Trembucker (TB-5) just sitting around begging for me to try this. Instead of the normal custom in the bridge and 59 in the neck, can I swap the coils (effectively having two hybrids) and use one in the neck and one in the bridge, or am I using two pups to come up with one hybrid?
Oh c’mon, it wasn’t that dumb.![]()

You will have two hybrids in the end but both would be bridge models. Nothing is to say you cant put one in the neck and like it too. They are Trem spaced so maybe the string alignment could be a little off in the neck but maybe not.
BachToRock I sent you a PM
Check this baby out...
59/Custom Hybrid with MJ wound coils & Invader polepieces!

How does it sound?
HUGE!
Those polepieces spread the magnetic field out over a larger area and since they don'y protrude out the bottom of the baseplate it is more concentrated within the coils for more power.
I initially tried it with an A2, but I think I like the A5 better.
I am going to make another one, but as a JB/Custom Hybrid... with either an A5 or the Ceramic from the Custom.

New to the forum. But have been in here for some time, reading.
Seems that hybrid is the way to go for me too. I have been experimenting with pickups, where to place them, wiring, etc, and will split coils. I´m using CC and Jazz today. I have a trembucker in bridge, slightly tilted (to get some punch on basside and harmonics on the higher), and regular size in neck. Homemade axe. Before I experiment and order parts (pickup) to make it work I´m hoping for some answers.
i wonder about the difference between coils, and screws/slug.
- Are the pair of coils within Custom, 59 and jazz close to identical?
- Can I change from screws to slug in one coil? And could this be reversed?
Thanks for great thread.
Called a friend and borrowed his guitar just to take out his 59. Have tried JB/C, C/59 and Jazz/59 with A2, 5 & ceramic.
Can finally say I will not search for "the tone" anymore. This (Cslug/59screw/A2) is the real ****!!!!!
Didn´t think there were much changes between jazz vs jazz/59. But my friend got to try this hybrid and compared it to 59, it is less muddy. Clearer chords and better to split.

Yup... the 59/Custom Hybrid gets "THE TONE"
Glad you tried the 59/Jazz Neck Hybrid... it is "THE TONE" for the neck position!
The tone when both pickups are on is absolutely magical as well... great for Albert King type blues tones...

Well, these hybrid pups sounds nice for low to mid gain, but I'm afraid under high gain you're gonna get a LOT of hum...
At least that's been my experience![]()
With low to mid gain they seem to have nice clarity & bloom, while still having balls that low-wind pups usually are missing![]()
anyone tried hybrid sh-13 with invader?
