I want to know how the student saw a 10 year old getting it from behind in the shower and just walked away. How screwed up and/or cowardly is that guy?

He knew who Sandusky was and he was a big a$$ pussy for not
intervening. I believe almost every one of us would have kicked the
old farts a$$ and probably given him the toilet plunger treatment
before calling the police. That man will get his.

I have to agree - had I saw that, I think I'm a bit concerned for what I would have done to the guy. As much as I like to think I 'd have given a controlled @$$ beating, I'm thinking he'd have ended up in ICU on life support.

My first thoughts on the entire issue. It would have been hard to have kept myself from attempting to murder him.

And I don't think any jury in the country would have convicted you.

everyone feels bad about this - even us.

the questions are: Did he do anything illigal? Did he do anything immoral? Did he respond insufficiently regardless based on the context/etc. Then - Does he deserve to be fired. Or worse....

    And that applies to everybody

I still am amazed. Everybody seems to know who is guilty and who deserves what - based on extremely little facts and knowledge.

I agree - it's probably going to turn out very badly. But as I have said - can't tell yet. But it shouldn't be to hard to sort it out.

And I agree - there should probably be actions taken against almost, if not everyone involved. But I also think there needs to be a measure of sensibility, serious investigation, and dealing the right punishment for the appropriate crime/failure/whatever - as appropriate. Instant villiification, judgement, and punishment, for any involved, isn't the answer.

And if you were involved, you would want to be treated that way too.

The acts that have been alleged, are heinous. I would hope that people wouldn't repsond based on that alone.

I hear this morning, unless I'm mistaken, criminal charges have been filed against Paterno.

I think I'm going to officially sit down and wait for the dust to clear....

But when it does, it isn't going to pretty. Nor should it be.

what do you think the differences in outcome would have been if the grad student saw sandusky raping a 10 y.o. girl instead of a 10 y.o. boy?

    for real

turns out that a big reason he still has a job is PA's whistleblower law ... if they can him, he would have grounds to sue ... his career is likely pretty darn shot at this point - will be interested to see how his situation plays out .... he wont be on the sidelines this weekend - no idea what happens after that

he's gonna have to dye his hair and change his name ... McQueery? really?

Not sure if you read the articles I posted on the last page but apparently he did almost less than nothing. He called his dad instead of campus police or a superior. Then when Sandusky was still allowed on campus he saw no point in further reporting what he had seen FIRST HAND. Mind you Sandusky was in his 60s at the time and McQueary was, if I read right, the starting quarterback and he did nothing about it immediately? I'm sorry. You could have Lou Ferrigno in that locker room and I'd at least attempt to do something.

    Fixed that for you.

If you see a major crime being reported by a co-worker, you call the police, not your boss.

(In your fixed analogy, the homeowner could have torched the house for insurance purposes.)

You can blame him for not doing the right thing. The guy was raping a child!! This is nothing short of a criminal offense and he should have picked up the phone and reported it to the police and then held a press conference. This would have protected his career & the school and at the very least forced the police to do what should have been done. How many other kids were raped because this ******* was not taken into custody?

I'm very troubled by how much responsibility is being shouldered on Paterno. I am no fanboy or apologist for the guy. I'm trying to consider what I would do in his shoes and with second hand information, besides calling the police myself, I'm not sure I would have done anything different. I do believe the higher ups really dropped the ball as they were surely in a position of power enough to have done more than take away Sandusky's keys to the facilities. McQueary seems to be getting deeper in this situation as time goes and rightfully so. As one of three eye witnesses he didn't do anything that he should have. The other two eye witnesses should also be in deep ****. Paterno seems to be caught in the middle as having not done enough. He's surely not innocent but far from the star offender or the do nothings.

I am amazed by the support this guy and organization is getting. Am I the only sane person who is appalled, by the act of either hiding or covering up or just not saying anything about a despicable act. It's a crime, so what if he is a coach, I don't care if he was the greatest man in the world what he did is wrong.

Retiring should be the least of his worries, jail time, a father's vengeance should be the top tho.....

I'll say it again. Paterno was not an eye witness and the person/people that were took no action to alert authorities. Paterno is being treated as if he was the one that walked in on the act and was not. Regardless of what he knew, higher ups knew more and other witnessed that actual act. Paterno is paying the price.
