My band is contemplating changing our name....

We're thinking about changing the band name since we're going in a slightly different direction and changing some members.

Our old name is/was Return The Ransom.

Does anyone like that name? Should we keep it or start fresh?

We have some, but the singer would never go for it.

Me and the other guitarist like to have fun and joke around with names.

A band name is probably the least important part of being in a band. Seriously. Look at the stupid names that have made it big: Pink Floyd (What the hell is this supposed to mean?), Led Zeppelin (It's not even spelled correctly), The Beatles (A bug? WTF). You've already got a name, focus on the music now.

We have the music, working on some brand new material. 2 of the 4 members want a name change, me and the other could care less.

The thing is we have some cred right now with the name as is. Got radio play, played some real nice venues, etc.

This would make me fight very hard to keep the name. A little recognition is way better than people drawing a complete blank when they hear your band name.

truthfully no idea. Someone just brought it to the table and we rolled with it. The problem is no one could pronounce it.

Naming a band is one of those things I just dread. They just get worse and worse as we come up with ideas. We start out with serious band names and 2 minutes later we want to call ourselves Boner Soup.

That is a pretty good name. However, IMO if you already have recognition with your current band name it would be unwise to change it. I feel like you'll lose all your cred.
