    Default blown exhaust gasket?

My truck, outa nowhere... got a little louder.
The exhaust now sounds like a p.o.s. truck exhaust.
Its coming front underneath the driver side, almost below the brake pedal.
Its not a ton louder, but its noticeable.
It is a 97 Chevy Cheyenne with 52,000 miles. (it was on an island in Alaska for 12 years!)

I can explain it any better than that.

    What else could it be?

I thought this was going to be a thread about your proctology appointment.

    A) WTF is a chevy cheyenne? Are we talking Silverado? 350 V8?

    B) it's a cracked exhaust manifold. Not a big deal, especially on a 350. You can do it (replace the headers) at home.

look for the black spot anywhere between your header and the exhaust manifold, the donut between your headers and your exhaust pipe, and anywhere down the length... it should be easy to find if youre under it and its running... could be simple as a hole in the pipe too.. more often a donut or where the muffler meets the pipe than in the headers....

I'd go with this, if it was a blown gasket you woudn't be getting
the noise beneath your feet. Time to shimmy up under there and
take a looksie like 80's M suggests, Good luck.

    Peace

As was said, could be a flange gasket/donut, or a rust hole. If it's near your brake pedal, it's at the y-pipe flange, or thereabouts.

Donut gasket or Y pipe would be my best guess.

Could even simply be the manifold bolts working undone. Makes the same racket as a crack. This once happened on my VW mk2 Golf. Every time that I pressed the throttle pedal, the engine shifted slightly on its mountings, opening up the joint between the outlet manifold and the first section of the exhaust pipe. Sounded like a WW2 aeroplane.

I just want to add how amazing I think it is that you people on this forum know so much about guitars and ALSO know a lot about cars. I know a moderate amount about both subjects but you guys always seem to make my knowledge seem minute. Thanks for keeping my ego in check.
