Your Exodus/Overkill/Biohazards/Testament/Merciful Fates etc...were all definitely players in the early genre.

However, that would be like arguing that among Beatles, Hendrix, the Stones, The Who, and Zepplin, that BTO or Grand Funk deserved a spot.

You can argue Overkill, but you can't deny Anthrax.

Overkill is an awesome band whose first five albums are still in constant rotation for me.

That said, their success came nowhere near the level of the Big Four. Hence the Big Four. They were the four biggest selling acts.

This, that or the other band may have thrashed harder or had more skills and been dearer to your heart but they sold the most.

S.O.D. is in a league of their own.

Here's a link to the top selling metal albums of all time.
    http://www.theaceblackblog.com/2009/...avy-metal.html

Metallica is clearly number one. Then Megadeth is clear number two and in third place Anthrax and Slayer in a tie with 4 gold albums. Sepultura takes the fifth place with 2 gold albums.
