I did this a couple of years ago too. I've been told I play bass very well, so I think I do ok. I play a number of instruments so I can think as a guitarist, or piano player, etc. I went in to the store looking at MIMs and came out with an Ibanez Ergodyne 5 string. It has an active circuit so it can get very round tones, get low enough to play keyboard-written lines, and can also get bright and Ricky like. Is very versatile and does great as my one and only bass. I might want twelve guitars, but one bass is fine and the Ergodyne suits me to a T.
