Default So the SH-10 Full Shred is considered a medium output pickup?

Is that part of the reason for the increased clarity? I see it's eq-ued with less bass.......I'm just trying to figure it out as the DC resistance seems similar to pickups in the high output category.

I like my Custom alot but clarity is usually my main criteria for a good pickup. The Custom isn't bad in that arena but could use a tad cleaning up. Then again my BKP Nailbomb is crazy tight and clear which is cool but to me that pickup lacks the fullness of a Duncan.

I guess I'm chasing the fullness of a Duncan with better clarity......the passive pickups on my GAS list are the Full Shred and perhaps an BKP Alnico Warpig or A-pig....

Not that I can't turn the gain up on my Axe-FX to compensate for a medium output pickup anyway.

    Opinions?

FWIW the Custom presides in a boat anchor heavy Ibanez Mahogany fixed bridge RG..

The Full Shred is basically the Custom with different pole pieces and an Alnico V magnet. It's more of a medium-high output pickup than a true medium, which I would consider something like the Screamin' Demon to be.

The Full Shred is a good option if you are looking for a little more clarity and the pole pieces tighten up the sound a lot. Though the Full Shred is not as heavy-hitting down low as some other pickups, it works very well in a mix and stays tight under gain.

If you prefer to stick with the exact sound and feel of the Custom, try swapping out the adjustable pole pieces for the type used in the Full Shred...cheap, cool looking and might be just the tweak you need to pull a little more clarity out of it without losing the tone you like.

You might also want to look at the Duncan Distortion for the bridge. Works very well in Mahogany and just rips for hard rock and metal.

I've been using Full Shreds for many years and I like them a lot. Typically in the neck where a JB is in the bridge (alder or poplar bodies), or I have a Kramer NightSwan (mahogany) with a FS in the bridge and a JB in the middle... where it holds it's own very well.

in the neck position it keeps things from getting muddy and doesn't get nasal sounding. in the bridge position it's not as weak as it appears on paper. I haven't found a need to tweak amp setting when going from a JB to a FS.

FS loves Mahogony. Brings out the lows missing in other woods. I use a FS in Basswood and use a MXR 10 band EQ in the loop with the low mids boosted a little. Really fills out the FS and keeps that killer artuclation.

CL is a lot like the FS...tho a tad more open and more lows. Not as cutting in the highs, but that PuP is another option if you're looking for clarity.
