...okay, I'm not rich.

Come on Jerry...You post in every single Marshall and Splawn thread there is on this forum with loads of info presented as fact spoken like you have experience with all these amps so why don't you tell us?!
I'm starting to think that either you make up all this crap you post or you just drink so much that you're forgetting what you lied about last...

Fer realz?! Yeesh ...
Why don't you take your little Cobra Kais and get outta here?!

Sometimes I get to proselytizing about Marshalls, just cause they sound so great, so while its obviously true I may get plastered and shout out they are the best from time to time, I've never played a Splawn, so, being not (yet) inebriated, this is more of a factual inquiry.
If I had a dumpload of Cash, I'd just keep the Marshall and get a Splawn.
So, what do you think?

Just don't actually do it

I'm going to assume that your JCM800 is a single channel, 2203/4 rather than the split channel variety.
Ask yourself this:
Versatility aside, do you like the tone of the 800?
Does it make you grin when you play it?
If you answered yes to either of those, don't sell it. Ever. Don't lend it out, don't leave it in your jam space...
I lost a beautiful 2204 about 10 years ago that I'm still chasing the tone from.
Augment, add to your collection, but don't let a great one go because of "versatility". You'll regret it.

Some time in the new year I want to get a Quick Rod.

Jerry,
Ill give you some info. Pinto was on the mark... If you love a stock JCM800, there is nothing like a good one. If you really really really like a stock JCM800 and LOVE a hotrodded JCM800 and then some... There is nothing like a quickrod!!!
Kherman.. DO IT
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

The marshall will increase in value the longer you own it.
ON that basis, id just keep the marshall. If you want more gain or whatever, just find the perfect pedal or pickups to get the sound you are after.
If you cant sound killer with an 800 and a pedal or two of choice, a splawn, soldano or any other amp is not going to help you much.
Id say stick with what you have and keep working on your chops.

I've used alot of single channel 800s over the years and have owned a dual channel 800 for the last 14 years but tonally, my Quick Rod hands the marshall it's a$$ on a plate.
The only amp I've found that comes even anywhere near the Quick Rod for the tones I want (70s and 80s Rock/Metal nothing br00talz) is a SLO clone built by my friend.
Gibson, PRS, Fender, Patrick Eggle, BC Rich, Gordon Smith, Jackson, Ibanez and Home-built Guitars.
Splawn Quick Rod, Soldano SLO Clone, Marshall JCM800, Matamp + old Carlsbro amps, Zilla and Award Session speaker cabs.
Mainly HomeBrew Electronics and G2D FX, plus a few other.
