Yes you would miss the Marshall. I personally don't think Splawns like Marshall clones. They have their own sound. Analogous to pickups, to me a Splawn is more like a Pearly Gates and Marshall is more like a Custom Custom. However, even though you would miss the Marshall, you would be satisfied with a Splawn.

Marshall's white logo makes it sound the way they do... It's very scientific.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

The JCM800 is the ultimate rock amp.

    So yeah, there's that.

I remember how many OD's you have, so you should have almost every flavor of gain through your Marshall.

Actually ... now that you mention it, he also has some DI boxes.

    Who needs an amp?

Sell the Marshall and get a Behringer Mixing Console, Power Amp and some monitors!

If you do it, a hole will open in the fabric of the space-time continuum, you'll be pulled in, and your opposite version will come into this world. This opposite self will actually play guitar, instead of talking about them all the time. Unfortunately, his needs will be best met with the 800 instead of the Splawn, and as a consequence he will stop playing guitar, and start drinking heavily and asking all kinds of dumb questions online.

Funny thing is, I hate, hate 80s metal and rock even though I grew up in the 70s and 80s. I still play some classic 60s and 70s music, but won't touch the 80s. My cover band is 90s rock, hard rock and grunge and my original project is light rock/modern indy rock. With this, the Splawn Quickrod or Street Rod is brilliant. It is like having a better, more versatile Marshall. My two main amps are a 20th Anniversary Bogner Shiuva that I had built around EL34s and a PWE Event Horizon, so I love british tones and ordered a new Splawn Street Rod that I should have by September! I am going to be running a Splawn 212 with Celestion Creambacks with that baby. Lots of guys who are not 80s metal, use Marshalls and Splawn. Who would have thought the guitarist of Collective Soul used a QuickRod.

I've never seen the terms 'JCM800' and 'tone' used in the same sentence before.

Who was the guy that bashed Eminence every time they came up? I think you're starting to get to be as bad as him, Crusty.

I was there in the 80s when the JCM800s arrived. Most of my guitar-playing friends and myself thought they sounded disgusting, and that was the end of Marshall. I still feel the same now, except of course Marshall went on to create even more horrendous-sounding models in the years since then. FWIW, i don't continually bash Marshall. They made good amps before they started putting master volumes in them. I've owned a few of those.

A JCM 800 can sound fantastic and I will say the Splawn Streetrod and Quickrod sound amazing.

Personally, from videos I've seen, I prefer the tone of the EVH 5150 III 50 watt head over Splawns. Splawns were the best, but the EVH 50 watt seems to nail the tone Splawn is chasing, has a better clean tone, is a bit clearer and better at low volumes. I just ordered one which will ship in August

Didn't like the EVH 5150 III 50 at all. My buddy has one in his studio and i borrowed it for a rehearsal and have played it in his house a few times. Far too much gain and fizzy for my taste. Didn't like the feel either. For me this is one of the worst new amps I have tried. I decided to order the new Splawn Super Sport along with the Splawn Street Rod. I just like Marshall style amps, my other amps are a PWE and Bogner Shiva, so you can see where my taste lives, LOL!

Splawn baby! Great versatile, cover any style amp! Basically like a better Marshall......anything from country to metal.
The cleans on the new Streetrod and Quickrods are perfect! You don't want pristine, pretty cleans for gigging, you need some grit on those cleans to cut the mix!
