Default Antiquity vs Alnico 2 pro

    Hey,
Kind of a quick question, i have now in my Les Paul a set of Antiquity's and recently i have been curious about alnico 2 pro's. It started because i was talking with a friend about how i still do love the 59sd and my friend said i would dig the Alnico 2's because they are just 59's with a A2 magnet. My question is how would you compare antiquity's to alnico 2's and are they like 59's?
    thanks

Well, tell your friend he is wrong.... they are not just '59's with A2 magnets. Same construction, but different wind altogether.

If you're happy with Antiquities, I'd just leave them in there. But, the Alnico II Pro is really sweet too.

the aph is not just a 59 with a2 magnet.

personally i prefer the antiquity over the aph by quite a bit, i like the 59 with an a2 over the aph too.

+1. Different wind, and totally different EQ's. Of Duncan's PAF types, '59's and A2P's are on opposite sides of the fence. '59's have a sharp high end, lots of tight bass, scooped mids, and fairly high output. A2P's are warm with softer highs, lots of mids, a loose low end, and are lower output. Excatly what does anyone see that they have in common?

i dont hear the aph as having tons of mids for an a2 pup. less mids to my ears than the ant or pg, still more than the 59 though

Same here. I find it more balanced than anything, probably closer to how the old design DiMarzio PAF sounds; just a nice balance of everything but plenty of cut.

To me, A2P's are warmer than PG's. Yes?

To me too, yes. PG's have this upper bite to them, kinda like the JB has that upper mid spike, only it's more subtle in the PG, just enough to nail the sweet spot. This also helps the PG sound fantastic when split.

Ant's have that great airy unpotted sound. However, I had to put an UOA5 in the bridge of my Ant to get some bite (the top was too rounded). I did not have to do that with my Seth, A2P, and PG bridge PU's (those still have A2's).
