There is such a simple solution to this : cut pieces from the rug and glue them to the soles of one's stage shoes (a little bit of superglue around the edges will prevent fraying). This way, one can have the feeling of standing on the rug anywhere on the stage, without attracting attention to the stage decor. Furthermore, it's a lot more portable and cheaper .... a small rug would eqip several sets of shoes for several bands.

Pretty sure SD and co. know this--if you attended the 2011 User Group Day in
Santa Barbara, this was the area set up out back to test out some of the gear:

Steve Howe uses one too. I stand on a large gel rubber chef's mat. Its like I am standing on memory foam.

Supreme comfort if you like to kick off your shoes during a set, plus you get to stand on the same surface every night, instead of taking your chances on a stage covered in god knows what. Looks cool, too.

I think I'm just gonna buy a damn rug and they can live with it.
Just show up ith one, and when they see you diggin the comfort in your own space, they'll all want one.

If you're going this far, you might as well just put the rug pieces into your shoes. That way, you get to stand on the rug in your socks, while keeping your now normal looking shoes looking normal.

I tried to be cool like this.

Bought a nice rug to lay over the spot where I stand in my living room. That way I would look cool, have the added mojo, and won't wear a hole into my carpet...

First nite breaking it in... tons of mojo. Buckets of sweet tone flowed from my amp... I was moving around the living room, rocking out, enjoying the new found benefits of tone & rug.

Then, at the pinnacle of my luscious performance I tripped over the dang thing. Guitar in hand, I almost went face-first into my Marshall half stack. The corner of the rug remaind curled up with what appeared to be a crooked grin.

I cursed the damn rug and quickly removed it. Now I leave it by the back door for the dogs to piss on.

    True stroy.
If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane.

Maybe your rug was advertised as MIP, but in reality was assembled in taiwan?
