    Default suck-ass gigs...

Don't they just make you livid?

I had one tonight. I was in a foul mood, I was tired, I was hungry, my mind was a million miles away, I was playing like ****, our singer kept ****ing up the songs, and I was having equipment problems with my SD Pickup Booster, which, like an idiot, I didn't test before taking it to the gig. I jut got a wild hair up my ass that I was going to use it tonight, so I popped a battery in and brought it along. I guess it has been sitting for too long or something, because when I switched it off, it usually wouldn't take me back to my proper un-boosted volume. Sounded thin and super quiet. It started working here or there when I tapped it to the side with my foot. And the resonance switch wasn't really working. Anywhere other than the middle position and I got no sound at all. I was also getting used to a new pedal tuner that was a gift from the other guitar player, and now I realize why I always loved my old Boss TU-12's so much. Those things are really awkward for me to use. I have to get used to them. Man, this is why pedals are not for me. Too much monkey business for me to keep track of!

Anyhow, when I got home, I sprayed the thing with some tuner cleaner and moved all the switches and such around. Hopefully that will clear up the problem.

    Just thought I'd VENT!!!!!!!!!

I had that same switch problem with my phase 90 at a gig. Still need to troubleshoot it. Been there with everything else when stuff just seems off too. It sucks but ya meddle through it and just go.

That's why I quit playing out. Had a bad night and thought, "screw it I'm done!" I just left during the second break and never looked back over my shoulder.

    Bummer.

I had one like that where the volume pot on my OD would go from where I had it, to full volume without warning. I finally had to use it like a boost with the volume pegged and the gain almost all the way off.

PPPPPP (Proper planning prevents piss poor performance). I do everything I can do practice the 6 P's. I keep spare tubes, fuses, Pedals , cables, guitar strings, slides etc. In the event I have an issue I can swap out a tube, change a broken string, replace a pedal or cable & usually good to go.

Yep; nothing to do except plough through it when it happens. I am not too destroyed by it, as I've only had a handful of gigs go this way in about 20 years of playing in front of people. And, whaddayaknow; my bandmate who taped the show said it really was pretty good show after all, as did people in the audience. Sure didn't feel good on stage, though. I usually have a lot of fun, but not last night.

Looking inside the pedal, it really seems like kind of a POS. The case is nice, but inside it could be a lot more heavy duty. Is there anything anyone here has done to upgrade? Are there better quality switches I could install for the foot switch and resonance switch? That pot looks cheap too.

Well, tonight's installment of the residency turned out great. Good redemption from last week's debacle. One more show left there this month, and it should be a crowded one.
