    Default Gibson Nighthawks

I played one of the Epis and kinda dig it. different vibe and tones.. I was stunned when I saw the 2010 Gibsons in my fav, Chicago blue and quilt top.. Gorgeous!

However, the 2009 Gibson and the Epis are made of Mahogany and the 2010 and up gibson ones are made of poplar. Anybody played the 2009 and 2010 to compare the diff in tone and playability? I imagine they play the same, but wonder about the tone..

I kinda dig em cuz they are diff, just like im liking the Epi wilshires..
    Thanks for the info

oh weird...those are COMPLETELY different than the old nighthawks. Can't say I like them much. Part of the magic of the old models was that even though it was a radically different electronics layout for Gibson, it still looked slick and simple. These new ones with all the gold bling and the quilted tops just look too busy and cluttered.

I would like to own an old nighthawk or a blueshawk one day.

I'd like a Blueshawk too. I never go out of my way to post girl pics on the forum but the post just requires this for added awesomeness:

You like everything though. If I painted a daisy rock flower shaped guitar with an array of different coloured petals, you'd say you like it. I'm not even gonna bring up the multicoloured butterfly guitar.

Haha. Yeah, I'm actually totally with you on that one.

Never played one but do like the idea of this recent one, particularly regarding the P90/bucker combination, as per the gospel of Blueman.

Those are some great looking quilt tops.

I sure wish Gibson would do more quilt tops on Les Pauls. The Nighthawk shape just looks odd to me.

Those quilt tops with all the gold and sh1t just hurt my eyes. Good lord. They look like something a Saudi prince would build a disco harem tiger cage from.

I look at guitars like that and think of the aging Vegas diva wife, covered with tacky jewelry and obvious plastic surgery.. No subtlety. All flash but no class.

I like the blue quilt, but NOT the gold. But, I dont like that they have changed the build.. Im wondering how diff they sound?? I wont get one, but I was real tempted by the EPI. When these came out way back in the day, I thought they were hideous. I still dont like the tailpiece. But having played the Epi, they are slick players and offer something new.. Im all about straying from the norm a bit.. Also, why im drawn to the Wilshires even tho I think they are ugly as sin.. They are killer axes at a very low price..
So, since they changed the formula, Id get an EPI.. It was nice. and put a JB in it since this great co Seymour D is making slanted pups for em..

I do like the one that Ashurbinapal posted above! like the pups and the trad stop bar tail

Actually a friend just dropped off a recent Epiphone Nighthawk for me to set up.

I never played an original, but I didn't like them- I always felt the tilted bridge humbucker was a bad idea, if anything it should've been a Tele pickup or some type of dual coil Tele pickup. And the body woods I didn't care for.

The guitar is pristine but doesn't look like it ever had a setup, it doesn't stay in tune so I'll be fixing it.

Those new ones look sweet and I like them, but the market's a bit flooded with H-S-H guitars, I'd prefer a version with the original electronics setup

Agree, the tilted HB is weird, and severely limits your PU options.

For Gibson/Epiphone, HSH is rare. I'd like to see them do that on more models, with combinations of HB's , mini's, and P-90's. SG's, V's, and Explorers would be ideal platforms, even 335's.
