Weird, do I want a PRS?

when the time comes where i spend more than a couple grand on a guitar, i'm getting a PRS. i love them. but when it comes to more budgety guitars, i dont like the flat top and lack of "flash" the SE series has. they play ok, but they just look cheap. i'd rather have a high end LTD.

I'm gonna be completely honest here I think from what you describe it's exactly what you are looking for I'd also like to say that I've owned my PRS Santana SE model for a few years now its a guitar I've held onto (and probably will continue holding onto for a while, I just have a lot of GAS right now and have a bit of a financial situation that won't really allow me the chance to go buy new guitars at will). I have a set of P-Rails loaded in mine and it's unbelievable how versatile this guitar is.

The SE models are fantastic if you are either
A) trying to get a general feel for PRS
B) trying to save some money

Every USA model I've played McCarty, Custom 22/24, Mira, Hollowbody II, Santana, Starla, 513, a 12 string forget the model, etc. has been awesome they are not at all what I'd describe as lacking mojo. I will say they are perfectly crafted I mean there really isn't a better company as far as QC is concerned imho perhaps the dealers I try PRS at setup the guitars when they arrive. They have their own sound to them they are not gibsons, fenders, etc.

I'd say go for it really you won't have much to lose even SE models retain their value well if you decide it isn't for you.

You're not the only one. I like that PRS makes both 22- and 24-fret models.

Also, decades after starting out as the anti-archetype, they have actually become an archetype in their own right -- the full-service solidbody that's not Brand F, Brand G, or a shredder.

What some people miss is that with the 25 inch scale, which is the same as Rickenbacker, is that you can dial in a Rickenacker tone as well

Most of the new SEs (2012) are carved top and have bird inlays and binding.

Well, it's not working...LOL.

The Singlecut Korina you posted is the pre-2012 model, exactly like mine. I like it better with the cream rings, switch tip and amber knobs. The added binding and bird inlays looks really sharp though on the 2012 models.

I have never considered owning a PRS until I found a super clean 07 Custom 24 in a pawn shop at a crazy low price a few months back. I had always considered them overpriced and soulless with no real (for lack of a better term) "mojo". I was WRONG!!
Since I have owned the Custom 24 my other guitars are not seeing any play time at all and I have not played one single gig with anything else.
Expensive yep! Worth the price?? Now I'm thinking so. Only thing that I struggle with on mine is the 10 radius on the neck and it still feels "off" to me. The tone and the way it responds is amazing and frankly I'm HOOKED on these guitars. Gibsons are not on the same planet in the real world as these things are IMO!!
The alternative would be a Carvin CT and now that they have the 24 fret models + have dropped the tone sucking graphite rods in the necks they are pretty close in fit finish and workmanship to the PRS's have the 25 scale and more options at 1/2the price or less.
Bottom line I gig 3 to 5 times a week with a PRS now and love it!!

Only PRS I like are the CE-22. Every Gibson I have played sounds better to me than and PRSi I have played. I owned a great McCarty and Custom 22 and my Les Pauls and SGs ate them alive! Only one that survived is my CE 22 and I would buy another.
My McCarty was picked out of 12 others and still sounded just meh, no matter what pickups were in it.
I am DONE with PRS unless another CE.
I will give props to the Billy Martin PRS. That is pretty nice. It was the only import PRS that I thought stood up to a USA model.

To each his own. I played a 25th anniversary Mira soapbar and a goldtop Santana at a local shop last week that were both killer. I'll give this Singlecut a shot, if I don't like it I'll send it on its way. It has the #6 pickups which I'm reading aren't the greatest, but I'll reserve judgement until I hear them for myself.

I picked up a PRS Custom 22 last year loaded with their HFS pups and couldn't be happier with it. My McCarty is a great playing guitar but the wood itself simply isn't quite as good sounding as the latter (it'll get sold when I find the same model in korina). I've learned to like what I like.
