    Default I love old people

Sitting here at this local cafe getting an early breakfast before my basketball tournament and its early....only people in here are four old timers sitting at the center table. All weathered up old cowboys... laughing and telling stories on each other.

I love that... no cell phones... no personal laptop devices.... just talking and enjoying each others company. Reminds me of hanging out with my grandpa when he was alive. Good times and never in a hurry.

I think we all do get a little caught up in technology and forget real human interaction, even between friends. It's one of the things I enjoy about deployments. Hit a port call and call home, but once that's over, drink some beers, hang out, tell jokes. It's not a bad life.

i know that's a pretty heavy statement to make and a bunch of dudes that love Teles and shredsticks are gona argue with me, but they're wrong.
anything you can't do on a Les Paul is because you haven't practiced enough or you don't rock hard enough.

We lived with my Grandpa when I was young. One of my favorite memories of him is that every day, about mid afternoon, we would go up to the country store. We would get an RC Cola and sit around with other old men telling stories. We lived on the Red River in east Texas and those fellers could spin some yarns.

Life without rechargeable batteries. That was the real life, sonny. And it still is for some of us. The invention of the telephone was invasive enough .... and don't even get me started about the new-fangled horseless carriages.

I could (and would) say much more, but typing has made me tired so i need a nap.

It seems like every town has at least one cafe where the old men sit and drink coffee and just visit. Sometimes it is farmers and ranchers in a slack season or old dude business owners whose businesses almost run without them, but mostly it is old retired men who have been hanging out together and repeating old stories for a long time.

Just a few blocks from my office is Paris Coffee Shop which is a serious old dude hangout.

A few years ago my boss and a coworker were there one morning and at a table near theirs sat five old men. One of the men just died and fell out of his chair and the other dudes just kept drinking their coffee. I guess by the age of seventy-five or eighty you've seen it all and are not easily surprised.

    Old people are the best!

I like to spend time at the local retirement/nursing home talking with them and getting to know them on a personal level.
Sometimes you can get them to give you money or even convince them to give you power of attorney.

Someday, we'll all be old men sitting around on the forum like the good old days.
