Meh. I've never heard Layne Staley's voice weaker. Maybe those just aren't the right songs to grab me.
EDIT: What a brain fart. I meant Layne Staley and typed Jerry Cantrell. Must have been thinking about those AIC harmonies.
... but they're different genres pretty much. Both good for different things. Smashing Pumpkins trump both bands though, even though they got lumped in with the Seattle bands and aren't even from Seattle.

When I first heard River of Deceit on the radio, I was thinking what a Layne Staley ripoff the singer was, but sounded just like him. Then the DJ came on and said who the band and singer were.
A real duh moment.
