At the Lake

Our local council funded a weekend of bands and other entertainment on the shores of our more recently filled lake. Two years ago it was bone dry as it had been for close to twenty years. It hasn't been this full for about twnty eight years. you could drive on it.

It coincided with our Australia day celebrations [ a couple of days earlier ].

Here's a few pics from today , the last day of three.





Some one took their four wheel drive in a bit far and needed a tow out.



The lake has a very shallow incline and only gets to about 15 metres deep [ 49 feet ] at the deepest point. It's about thirty five kilometres [ 21 miles ] long and i've forgotten how wide. It streches between the town I live in and the next down the road at the other end of the lake. This is where these pics are from, Down the other end.


This is a telescopic shot of a sand dune at the other end of the lake. The line of vegetation youcan just see on it are very tall pine trees. All along that end of the lake are massive sand dunes.



Some trees died when there was no water but some sprang back to life as soon as there was water.

The lake does have what we call Yabbys.
Apparently they need to breed for a few years till they become usable.
