Default ok....so sell me on the '59/custom hybrid

Just heard the crew at duncan is going to make it an off the shelf model now......been wiondering how it would sit in my gibbo LP custom?

    would it:

    A) be too bright for the ebony board??

    B) be a good balanc between vintage and hot/modern tone for a LP

    ok....ready.....go!

A - if it is then you can put an A4, A2 or UOA5. I have one in my studio and only the A5 mag works for it - chambered body and rosewood board in mine though.

B - in a word, yes. I've heard its like getting a brobucker without spending the $$$ for a custom shop pickup. All I know is that its great for sizzling tone without sounding compressed.

i think you'd love it to record with; but i've not heard one in a band mix, and i know your rhythm sound in a band mix is a priority

C'mon Chris, no need to sell you anything.

You already KNOW YOU WANT TO.

The new hybrid comes stock with an A5 mag.

Just keep an UOA5 and an A8 just in case...

do you want a jucied PAF tone?
do you want a excellent split tone?
do you want a versitile pup?
do you want more overtones than a standard pup gets?
do you want a pup that cleans up when you back off the vol knob?
if yes to more than three of these GET ONE!

Ive honestly been trying to decide on if i want to go back to the Aldrich set from john suhr or try something else.

The Aldrich set is an AWESOME "hot, ballsy PAF" set for the LP and can cover anything from blues, classic rock all the way to metal. The only thing that I kinf got tired of after a while was the smooth high end the bridge pickup had. It was nice yes, but after a while, it just felt like my high end had no bite to it. Its like writing with a dull pencil.....yes it works, but it doesnt have that nice, sharp point.

Not to take away a sale, but for the same price you could get two used 59s and Customs and make two of them yourself - one for neck and one for bridge.

Or get a JB/59 and make a hybrid of those. You might like the tone, and from what I can tell on mine, the highs are definitely biting.

The main reason I was asking about the hybrid in the first place was because I honestly dont know anything about its tonal characteristics. But Ive read thread after thread of people raving about how good it is........ive never played the '59 or the custom either

Its going to be pretty hard to tell you what the hybrid is like if you've never experienced any of the pickups its made from.

as long as the OP can work on pups this is a good idea
BUT if he is inexperienced with wiring and soldering not a good idea then!

careful you know someone is going to chime in at any moment saying how silly this is and that anyone that can use a pencil sharpener can swap a pickup and rewire their guitar.

But I agree with this statement if you are comfortable soldering and wiring this is a great option, however if you aren't and don't know people that are DON'T BOTHER.

I'm sorry I don't think some of this stuff is that great to experiment on. If you have the money to buy a beater guitar to learn the ropes on that's fine, but if it's something you like I would leave it to someone experienced. I know a lot of people that think they know how to solder that suck at it and I've seen them ruin pickups, pots, etc bc of their negligence.

I use one, swapped it in two guitars, used an A2, A8 and currently a degaussed A5. I like the A5 the most. The tone is even, medium output and incredibly versatile. If you can't decide on a pickup, the 59/Custom will make you happy. It's also fairly transparent, being that your guitar influences the pickup, more than the opposite being true. If you have a crappy guitar, it will gladly tell you.

Hey, I graduated from DeVry Tech but even if I didn't watch Seymour explain it on boobtube, either strat or humbucker, then get the SD triple shots and watch Frank Falbo on boobtube, then do it.

    Jump in, the waters's fine!

And so 80% of the world finds they don't like the 59/Custom Hybrid because it makes their Epiphoneys and such sound like they really do
