Default Which is the better value 335 ?

Guys, (in your oppinion) which 335 do you think is the better buy ?

This will be my very 1st ES-335.

    1) http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guita...lectric-guitar - faded satin $2250.00

    . . . or . . .

    2) http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guita...h-gloss-finish - plain dot $2699.00

I am looking at either the red model or the black (in both)

    Thanx Guys

I prefer the look of the Satin Black.

But resale will be better with the Gloss.

And resale is the deciding factor. You never plan on selling, but when it happens you want the more desirable/expensive model.

You are right then...the only real difference is the colour choice and the lack of a gloss top coat...

As far as playability, they seem like they'd be the same, except that the finish on the neck will feel a little different on your hand, and the gloss dot has grover tuners, not the green tulips. Personally I like grovers more but not $400 more.

As someone who went for a faded les paul studio over a gloss LP studio, I can say that if you're one of those "shut up and just play!" kind of guys, you'll probably love the satin one.

No real need to try...if you like one of them you'll like the other but guitars are all different so you might find a gem thats a satin model or a turd thats a satin model...

They have the same basic neck, neck profile, pickups, bodies,m center block, bridge, etc...aside from the gloss the only difference is one has Grovers stock while the other comes with Klusons.

FWIW, you could get a SMOKIN used 335 for a lot less money if you wanted to buy used.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I got lucky and got mine for $1850. It plays and sounds amazing, and is one hell of a looker too.

definitley. play em first! Youll know then which guitar speaks to you the best.
I kinda like the gloss tho just looking at pics. The neck has binding on it too.
See if you can try a bunch of 335's...second hand also....

If you are gonna go flat finish, I'd just go straight for a used ES-333. I think if you are gonna spend $2,250 for a flat one, you might as well wait until you can throw another $450 at it for the full-on ES-335 model.

I sold my sunburst 333 for $900 mit case about 4 years ago, and have regretted it since. Now they seem to have gone up in value, but at not much over $1,000, they are still the killer deal in the Gibson semi-hollow world IMO.

They do have ceramic-mag pickups. If you like 'em, great. If not, you still come out OK after a pickup swap and the sale of the ceramics. And pickup and electronics swaps are an absolute breeze because they have a back door.

Mine looked like this, but they came in transparent red and natural too, and maybe more colors:

    Go used. I got a $3200 custom ordered flametop/back ES-335 for $1850 off Craigslist.
