Pretty lame metal pedal IME.

Cool thanks all, any good suggestions ?
I guess that depends on whether you will add distortion to your amps clean channel or drive your amps dirty channel. If you have a high gain amp, then I personally think it's better to use a mild overdrive on your dirt channel and use an EQ in your fx loop to get scooped metal sounds.
If you want a distortion pedal for a clean amp then I can think of a number of incredibly good pedals. Guyatone makes a Mighty Micro Hot Drive which is awesome. GNI Xtreme distortion is insanely good.
Krank Distortus Maximus is a fantastic metal pedal which has a great EQ, but it doesn't get a brutal amount of distortion. It doesn't need it in my opinion, but if your amp can get a little grit on the clean channel then it will give you phenomenal thrash tones.

What amp do you use? What kind of tones are you looking for? Maybe name an example band with tones you like, to give people a better idea what you're wanting and what you have to work with.

Fender half stack, V head and Mustang V 412 4x12 Cab

Second thread I've seen from you like this, man.
Those digital modeling amps are designed to be an all-in-one solution... all the sounds and gain and FX and stuff are already in there.
Analog effect pedals like the MXR are designed to plug into vintage-style, usually tube, guitar amps. They're not designed to plug into digital amps, and digital amps aren't designed to accept them.
Your amp has about three billion tones in it. Play with those. You got a great deal on a sweet rig. You don't need to add anything to it, except maybe the pedal that helps you control it better.
And it's a Mustang V head... and you say it Mustang Five... stop calling it the Fender V-head hahaha

the mxr fullbore sounds like ass.
Poopy ass.
Covered in flies.
and poop.
and farts.
it's incredibly noisy, bulbous and undefined, fuzzy, spitty, farty. I've played with it a bunch and cannot get any usable metal tones out of it, except maybe stoner doom stuff which needs to sound like elephants exploding to sound good at all.
for thrash, death metal, black metal, nwobhm, etc, i would much rather use my amp's distortion.

I agree with everyone. That head has tonal options in spades.

It is. Just like experimenting, but it can and has bitten me in the ass.
Might try looking for a soild state, or tube head that will work with my Fender cab, so I can run pedals multi effects unit, since I have it all. I will hang on to the Fender FIVE HEAD, as it do very much like it. Ryan Build me a board buddy....

hehe, i can help you build a board all day, but it won't be meant to be run into your mustang. if you wanted a separate analog head, that cab wouldn't sound right. the mustang's speakers are built to be a transparent vehicle for which the head to translate a wide variety of tones through rather than tonally flavoring an analog signal. come by the store this weekend and we'll talk gear if you want![]()

O ya will do man..

there was one for sale on here awhile back for a decent price. I recall a video that went along with the sale that made it sound like 10 distortion pedals daisy chained together, it was pretty brutal.

do you think any pedal can give you a "full bore" metal sound on its own?
or a digital modelling amp?
You might not know it yet, but what you really need is one of these:
