That has no bearing on making a guitar look like an old vintage guitar. Aging a new guitar, and that same argument pops up all the time, is irrelevant to making a guitar look like an old 70's, 60's, or 50's guitar.

Relicked doesn't necessarily mean vintage either, so what?
In 1861 as Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the Blue and Gray had far more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "what is truth"? Barring a major epidemic or nuclear attack to explode the postmodern myth that the reality outside our heads depends for its very existence on what we think of it, secession is coming...

They've been antiquing furniture for years and years. Some folks just like something that looks older than it is. I myself would only buy a relic'd guitar if it completely smoked the same model of guitar with a nice finish.

Does naturally aging a non-aged reissue count? (Yes, I'm being drawn into the madness...)

What do you mean? The oldest "relicked" guitars are not even 20 years old.

I think it's kind of funny but relic'ing has been going on a lot longer than 20 years. THe factories didn't invent it. Small guitar shops did it for ages for players. Most of the work I saw was done to refins or repairs so that they looked cohesive with the instruments age and what not but I remember guys buying vintage parts for LPs back in the mid 80's and slap them on new LPs and then aging the other parts and dulling finishes etc so that they looked worn in. One of the coolest guitars I remember getting the treatment back then was a Heritage Firebird. It got taken out of the box and made to look like it was 20 years old before the owner ever played it and that was maybe 87 or 88.

I get the distaste for the "blues lawyer" syndrome but regardless of what they are playing they are going to be a bag o' dicks. Play don't worry....

Is the relic thing played out? No.

I'm relic-ing my Jaguar. I like the feel of a worn down guitar, I like feeling bare wood, I like seeing the open pores. It seems so much more organic and appealing to me.

the relic thing doesn't bother me. If u want that look and it makes you happy and u can afford it then go for it. However I am still pissed over the lawyers. Nothing in this musical world irks me more than a crappy musician that corksniffs. I dont like corksniffing anyways. But if your a great player I will forgive you for it to an extent.

I say the more blues lawyers the better. They keep the guitar makers I like in business.

(For that matter they've been known to buy from me from time to time -- there, I said it!)

We need cork sniffers, it's where we get good deals from when they eventually sell.
