Full shred + (small)ceramic = sex

I thought it was a bit too wankey on the bottom end, so i swapped the A5 for a normal sized ceramic. Its a bit punchier and fuller than the DD with more clarity. Easier to keep in control at high gain. Ive found my new favorite metal pup.

That sounds pretty spectacular. I am VERY fond of the TB-6 in my BC Rich USA guitar. Punchier sounds promising; I cannot imagine it sounding more full than it already does. I want to hear clips if you get any!

Try it with an Alnico 8! The DD kicks ass in my LTD, but I like it even better now with an A8. At least for that guitar, the search is over!

how would you compare the FS ceramic to the FS A5 to the FS A8?


the FS8 didn't work for me and was about to put the A5 back in it. I have a spare ceramic sitting here, so I'm very curious about the finer points of what you've come across here.

at one point I had hex poles in my duncan custom (oversized ceramic mag too). It was good for adding a bit of tightness and attack.

But I really don't think it sounds punchier than a DD. The custom wind to my ears anyway has a fairly broad, even EQ curve, rather than the JB/DD which definitely have a sharp upper mid thing going on, so I guess it could sound fuller, but IME, the DD dishes out copious amounts of thump, crunch and bite, in ways the Custom cannot.

I would have thought it would be a little bright and thin, maybe I'm just used to thick pickups. I think a big ceramic would be murderous in a FS, especially based on the big ceramic in a custom, so killer.

That does seem to have the throatiness I would expect from a Distortion! I approve! Full Shred with ceramic is a nice concept...

That is pretty much a more defined version of a Custom, isn't it? That just leaves me wondering if swapping the screws for hexes on a Distortion would add some more high end definition.
